In Destiny 2, seasonal challenges are said to give 40 – 60 % less experience points than recently before. The Guardians are annoyed that the tasks in Season 14 promise significantly more experience and that the change to the XP happened secretly.
Destiny 2 just kicked off the new Season of the Splicer on May 11 to satisfy the content hunger of the Guardians. However, a new discovery regarding seasonal progress is now ruining the mood for some Guardians.
Is there now less EXP? One of the main sources of experience in Destiny 2 is the seasonal challenges. Week after week, up to 10 tasks from various areas are added, giving players a kind of guide through the season. Completing them yields large amounts of experience as well as the premium currency Glimmer as a reward.
However, this large amount of experience points is supposed to be 40 – 60 % lower than in the previous season.
On reddit, Guardians are calculating exactly how much experience they received from seasonal challenges just a few days ago and how stingy the new seasonal challenges of Season 14 are.
Seasonal challenges promise “extra XP”
Players find this cheeky: The Guardians wonder if these changes to experience gain have been communicated by Bungie anywhere.
A glance at the patch notes of the new season reveals only: “A new XP bonus size system has been introduced for seasonal challenges.” (via Bungie.net). There is no mention of an XP reduction.
The seasonal challenges now promise a lot of experience. Here it says “extra XP” or even “2 times extra XP” – in the previous Season 13 it only said “+XP”.
The new description suggests a real downpour of experience points, while the actual amount is lower. This annoys the Guardians, making them feel cheated.
Has Bungie commented on this? So far (May 14, 1 PM) we have not found any statement from developer Bungie or any of the community managers regarding the XP issue.
It could also be a bug that incorrectly reduces the accrued experience points.
This reminds us of 2017: Bungie had real problems with experience points or not enough of them back in 2017. At that time, the Destiny developers remorsefully said: “XP issues in Destiny 2 made us look like greedy fools.” At that time, the community referred to an EXP disaster and accused Bungie of deliberate manipulation.
With EXP to Cosmetics and seasonal ranks
Why do you need experience? In Destiny 2, you do not need EXP directly to increase your character’s level. However, the experience benefits the seasonal artifact and the season pass.
- In the season pass, there are 100 levels with rewards, including 2 new legendary weapons and the fresh Stasis exotic – which is only available to non-paying Guardians at level 35. Otherwise, you will find plenty of resources and stylish cosmetics here.
- The seasonal artifact gives you access to powerful mods and even grants you a bonus to your power level – so you can better master endgame activities like the raid, at least in the current season.
- Although EXP does not directly relate to your power level, that is, the power of your weapons and armor, you still feel a power increase through experience and earn new items faster through the artifact.
Since Guardians are naturally impatient, they are always looking for ways to maximize experience gain as quickly as possible. For many, part of the ritual in preparation for a new season is to hoard bounties and then bring the experience gained into the new season. And the perk that increases experience gains is already set for most.
