On January 21, 2025, Season 7 began and introduced the new powers of witchcraft, which are the central feature of the season. To learn witchcraft, you gather seasonal reputation by completing tasks for the Whispering Tree.
While you can acquire most powers directly at the circle by the tree, there are also “forgotten powers” that you unlock at special altars. However, these altars are well hidden and can be frustrating for some players.
What are these altars? To acquire the forgotten witch powers, you need forgotten altars. According to Blizzard, they spawn “in random dungeons in Sanctuary” and are said to be hard to find. By using the seasonal elixir “Potion of Whispers,” which you receive as rewards for your circle reputation, you double your chance of stumbling upon an altar. It can be used together with other elixirs and lasts for a whole hour.

The altars are said to spawn especially in one dungeon
This is what players suggest: One player shares a helpful tip on Reddit: Instead of Nightmare dungeons or the Pit, one should rather farm normal dungeons to find the forgotten altars. The dungeon “Decline of the Hoarfrost” in the Shattered Peaks, northeast of Kyovashad, is particularly recommended. According to the player, this works best at Torment level 4 and with an activated “Potion of Whispers” to increase the chance.
In another Reddit post, “Decline of the Hoarfrost” is also recommended as the best option for farming the forgotten altars. The user reports that they found two altars there within 20 minutes. They emphasize that the layout of the dungeon is perfect for speed runs since it is basically a large circle. The altars appeared particularly frequently in the second area of the dungeon. Their tip: To save time, you can simply ignore the tasks and the boss, reset the dungeon, and start again immediately.
Other users in the threads advise that your chances increase if you team up and everyone activates a “Potion of Whispers.” In addition, a dungeon can be explored much faster as a group, ensuring you don’t miss anything.
