In The Division 2, there are apparently two secret factions that are not mentioned in the story or the gameplay documentation: Ambushers and Underground. Among the factions, there are strange characters like chainsaw tanks or enemies reminiscent of ninjas. Here is what we know about them so far.
These are the known factions of The Division 2: Every player of The Division 2 should be familiar with the factions that players encounter throughout the story and in the game world. This includes
- the True Sons – a group consisting of former soldiers and JTF members,
- the Hyenas, an anarchistic gathering of clans with their own way of life,
- the Outcasts, a group of sadistic fanatics
- and the Black Tusk, a high-tech private army that only appears in the endgame of The Division 2.
Each of these factions has their own types of enemies that behave differently in combat. Generally, it’s easy to recognize to which faction these enemy types belong.

Players are puzzled about this: More and more players report that they have encountered enemies in Washington D.C. that do not belong to any of the factions. They wonder what this is all about.
This includes strange “ninjas” and large enemies with chainsaws. Our readers have also mentioned this in the comments.
Fans collected several clues on Reddit that suggest there are two additional, unknown factions. These factions are also listed in the subreddit.
They refer to mysterious (Ambushers) and nightmarish (Underground) factions, about which almost nothing is known.
Under the Streets of D.C. Awaits the Underground Faction
This is the Underground faction: These strange enemies are equipped with headlamps and usually hide in the underground areas of Washington D.C.
User Onsly_Br already introduced 3 enemy types of this faction on Reddit over a month ago. He allowed himself to be killed by them to get more detailed information on the enemies.
The unique aspect of this faction is that they fight without saying anything. This makes them feel particularly eerie.

The Known Enemy Types of the Underground Faction
Assault: They are armed with assault rifles and primarily fight from cover.
An in-game description translates to: “They mostly only come out at night…mostly. No, seriously, they mostly only come out at night. Hide your kidneys.”

Rusher: These enemies are equipped with knives dipped in poison. They appear like masked ninjas and use their blades as throwing knives and in close combat.
According to the description, these enemies lie in wait around corners to simply stab their unsuspecting victims.

Chainsaw Tank: This includes a heavily armored enemy type that attacks you with a giant chainsaw. They charge into battle and can take you out with a single hit. There is no description of this opponent in the game.
However, this enemy type does not exclusively belong to the Underground faction but can also be encountered among the Outcasts.

Thrower: This enemy throws grenades that spread toxic gas. They prefer to fight from cover. If you shoot at them while they are throwing a grenade, the grenade explodes and the enemy catches fire.
In addition to the Underground faction, there is another largely unknown group that hunts you in Washington D.C.
The Ambush Faction Lies in Wait with Bow and Arrow
This is the Ambush faction: As with the Underground faction, not much is known about this enemy. They lie in wait for you on the streets of D.C. and attack suddenly.
Some also call them the “LARP” faction because it looks like they come from a medieval role-playing game. Some suspect that the “Ambushers” appear in the Dark Zone. There are even videos circulating of an encounter (via YouTube).
In doing so, the Ambushers use different weapons than the other factions. Here, too, Onsly_Br was able to collect some information.
These are the Known Enemy Types of the Ambush Faction
Assault: The standard enemies of this faction are equipped with a composite bow. This bow inflicts massive damage.
They can appear in larger numbers and thus become a serious threat.

Rusher: These enemies are equipped with an axe as a melee weapon and a round shield.
Like the other melee enemies, they charge at you and attack you with blows that deal heavy damage. The shield, however, can be destroyed with sufficient damage.

What is the deal with these secret factions? This can currently only be speculated. They may play a larger role in the future.
What do the players say about it? Overall, many are taken with the factions. They are cool enemies and also seem mysterious. Others, like user AmateurProtagonist, criticize that the factions are not mentioned anywhere else.
This would break the immersion and leave a strange aftertaste in the context of the rest of the world.
Moreover, many would like to know if they have any other role than just providing random encounters in the game world.
