In the MMORPG Guild Wars 2, there is a dispute in the community. Some players are trying to lose a map event, while others keep winning it despite hints. This stems from a questionable design decision.
What is currently happening in Guild Wars 2? Some players are trying to lose an event in Orr, the realm of Zhaitan. The event has been around for a while, but a new achievement was introduced with the patch on May 24, 2022.
The corresponding event is divided into several stages, which can be won or lost separately. Those who play “normally” naturally try to win all the time. However, this is a problem for many others.
Why do players want to lose the event so badly? There is an achievement connected to it that is necessary to unlock new weapon variants. However, these can only be obtained if the “Risen High Wizard” is defeated during the attack.
For that to happen, a previous step of the event must be lost. Otherwise, the boss dies too early and doesn’t count towards the achievement. This has sparked controversy among fans and caused disputes.
Although many may not know what it’s about, there are even players who intentionally sabotage the event. Complaints from achievement hunters about teammates who keep winning the event can be found on reddit and Twitter.
Particularly frustrating is that the map event only starts every hour. So if it is inconveniently won, it means: wait. However, the problem is said to be resolved soon.

Poor design excludes players from new cosmetics – developers respond
The decision behind this design has been criticized by those affected. You cannot even blame players for winning the event, as that is usually the goal. Forcing someone to lose something intentionally is thoughtless.
Intentionally messing something up is difficult, especially with map events where dozens of players must coordinate, and that only with a text chat. This currently makes the achievement nearly impossible.
Developers ArenaNet have already commented on the issue. They want to change how to obtain the new weapon collections (via Guild Wars forums). However, the patch will not be released until June 7.
Until then, those hoping for the weapons will have to wait – or be lucky. But at the moment, coordinating an entire map to intentionally lose seems nearly impossible. Especially since Guild Wars 2 has significantly gained in popularity, and many newcomers surely don’t know:
