Destiny 2 has brought old weapons “back” into the game so that Guardians have more loot. But the weapons are now worse or simply do not drop at all. Bungie is now responding to both points of criticism from the Guardians.
These weapons are causing problems: Bungie wanted to give the Guardians more loot to hunt and introduced “new” weapons to Destiny 2 with update 3.2.1 last week “new” weapons. The guns are not really new, as they are warmed-over weapons from previous DLCs.
Warming them up annoys players in general, but the “new” weapons have two much larger problems:
- The weapons from the Moon arsenal are suddenly weaker than they were originally in the Shadowkeep DLC in 2019.
- The weapons from the Dreaming City arsenal (Forsaken, 2018) simply do not drop at all. Many Guardians are wondering: Where are these “new” weapons?
- Bungie is now addressing both points of criticism.
Weaker weapons, if the Guardians can even find them
Where are the good perks? The Moon weapons can be farmed. The Guardians did that right after update 3.2.1 and found that the guns are suddenly weaker than their original versions. Back in 2019, the weapons had a better perk pool, making them deadlier.
Bungie stated when announcing the “new” weapons that there are new perks, but the best old perks are now missing, which is causing frustration.
As an example, let’s take a look at the sniper rifle “Calm” (via light.gg):
- “Calm” could have the rare and powerful perk Line of Fire back then.
- This increased damage by 25% when colleagues were nearby.
- In endgame activities like raids, bonus damage was always active since you fought the boss together from a well or in front of the bubble.
- There is currently no trace of the God-Roll perk. The best option available is Rampage – but that perk was recently nerfed.
The weaker perks run like a common thread through all Moon weapons. The only exception here for many Guardians is the hand cannon “Lullaby.” The 120 RPM revolver is now considered better, thanks to the combination of Tunnel Vision and Kill Clip. But it is really “better” only because all 120 RPM revolvers have been heavily nerfed, and with this combination, you can circumvent the nerf and kill in PvP with 2 shots (once the buff takes effect).

Where are the “new” weapons from the Dreaming City in Season 14?
The warmed-over weapons from the Dreaming City have a completely different problem: The Guardians simply cannot find them. Players would love to walk around with the Tiger’s Tranquility or the Oryx’s Schism and reminisce about the glorious Forsaken days. These weapons also have solid perk options – even though First Shot is suddenly missing from the sniper rifle.
This is also a topic on MeinMMO. Our user Daruma asks in the comments: “Has anyone already gotten an old/new weapon in the Dreaming City? For me, only ‘old’ stuff seems to drop.”
Developer Bungie responds to both points of criticism
This is what Bungie says about the missing loot: The absence of the “new” weapons from the Dreaming City is a known bug that Bungie is currently working hard to fix. Bungie communicated this on July 12 (via Twitter). An update is scheduled for Thursday, July 15, by the way – will the bug be fixed by then?
It is a different story with the Moon weapons. Here, the absence of the perks is intentional and not a bug. Since many players were not really satisfied with the warming-up process, Bungie now wants consolidated feedback.
The community manager Dylan “dmg04” Gafner asks which perks are most missed and which new perks are being received best by the Guardians. The feedback will be passed on to the team, but he cannot promise that every God-Roll from the past will return.
It is also not surprising that the warming-up of old weapons generally bothers players. After all, the guns were heavily grinded in the past, left with the unwanted weapon sunset, and players must/should obtain the almost identical weapons again – just like several years ago. Can you relate to the criticism and are you also angry that Bungie let the “new” weapons burn during the warming process? Or are you much more pleased that the loot is coming back in its current form and hope that the problems will be resolved soon? Let us know in the comments.
