The release of Diablo 2 Resurrected is still pending, but some players are already preparing for the launch by playing the 21-year-old original. This has a reason, as they want to be the first in the ‘World First Race’.
What kind of race is this? The professional guild Method, known from the MMORPG, has planned a ‘Race to World First’ in Diablo 2 Resurrected together with Twitch streamer MrLlamaSC.
It’s about being the first in the world to complete all 5 Acts of Resurrected, defeat all bosses, and then conquer all particularly challenging super bosses. Participants must work their way through from normal mode to nightmare mode and then to hell mode.
One of the participants is MrLlamaSC himself, a speedrunner and currently the largest Twitch streamer for Diablo 2 (via sullygnome.com). He caught attention back in May when he finally found the ‘Holy Grail’ after over 4 years.
How are people training? MrLlamaSC is currently playing through the old Diablo 2 together with some other streamers as quickly as possible. Since Resurrected does not change the content, the process in the remaster will be nearly identical, even though there are other changes.
This way, the streamer and his team memorize the best routes or use some tricks to be faster. For example, MrLlamaSC searches for a specific location with his sorceress because she can teleport. He then opens a portal to the town there, and his team members follow.
In one of the test runs, the team took less than 3 hours and 30 minutes for the challenge. If they manage it as quickly at the release of Resurrected, most ‘regular’ players will probably still be stuck in Act 2 at that time. We have embedded the full video here:

WoW guild hosts ‘World First’ – When does it start?
When does Diablo 2 Resurrected start? The release of the remaster is on September 23 at 5:00 PM German time. You can then play Diablo 2 Resurrected on PC, PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch with up to 8 players in co-op (4 on Switch).
The World First Race will start at the same time, and you can follow it on the Twitch channel of Method. A pre-show will already start 3 hours prior. More info about the event can be found on the official website of the guild (via method.gg).
There won’t be crossplay at launch, but there will be cross-progression. Progress will be transferred between platforms if you play Resurrected on multiple consoles.
What’s next? Diablo 2 previously had the so-called ‘Ladder’, comparable to the seasons in the current Diablo 3. There, you create a new character each time, and it is likely that ‘World First’ races will occur more frequently there, in which you can also easily participate.
The content of Resurrected is actually completed. No new content is directly planned, but it is not excluded. The developers say it partly depends on how well Diablo 2 is received by you:
