Right at the launch of Battlefield 2042, there have already been numerous complaints from the community. The absence of a key feature from previous titles is behind this: a proper scoreboard. MeinMMO summarizes what players find bothersome about it.
What exactly is missing in Battlefield 2042? The scoreboard normally shows every player in a match, including important statistics from the respective game. These include:
- The K/D ratio, i.e., kills and deaths
- Assists
- Player rank
- Score and placement
However, in Battlefield 2042, this is handled differently. Instead of a scoreboard as known from previous installments, players only see their team’s squads. There are no precise details on how many players are actually in the team, no information about player rank or similar.
Here you can see a direct comparison of how it looks in a match:
Many players are not happy about this at all, and there is now a lot of criticism regarding the missing feature in Battlefield 2042.
Thousands of players want to push for the feature to be added
This is what the community thinks: Many players are discussing the topic in numerous threads. All of them now count several thousand upvotes, with the most popular thread receiving over 7000 upvotes (as of November 12, 15:11 via reddit.com).
The feedback from players is clear: “We need a scoreboard!” There is a overwhelming number of comments agreeing with this sentiment, and if you combine the various threads, you would get well over 1000 comments. One thread creator summarizes the community’s concerns as follows:
The scoreboard indicates whether you are performing well or not. If you are doing poorly, you can change your playstyle or practice to improve. The scoreboard is one of the things that make the Battlefield games a “competitive game.” In Battlefield 4, the scoreboard shows who is dead or alive and thus provides other useful information. The least you [DICE] can do is offer us the scoreboard in Portal. If you need inspiration, DICE, then look at Battlefield 4, the perfect scoreboard.

In his post, the player At0mic11 also calls on others to write more posts, create more threads, and bring the community’s demands to DICE’s attention.
Some have answered the call and some players even jokingly threaten penguins with death: “Bring back the scoreboard, or the penguin will pay the price.”
Across reddit, there are numerous such posts with thousands of upvotes and hundreds of comments.
This is why so many players are disturbed: Scoreboards are virtually indispensable in multiplayer shooters. They show where you or your team currently stands in the match, how the opponent is performing, and they also make other important factors visible:
- Are the teams balanced?
- Or are only pros battling against beginners?
- Are the matches even full?
- Are there possibly cheaters?
All of this can be made visible through a scoreboard.
Especially in Battlefield, with its often lengthy rounds, particularly in the conquest mode, the scoreboard is thus an important tool. However, in its current form, the scoreboard in Battlefield 2042 is not very informative, as you get no information about the enemy.
Moreover, you cannot see whether the other squads are full and how they are performing. Many community members are not happy about this at all, and it is currently causing quite a stir in the Battlefield 2042 subreddit.
128 players too many for a scoreboard in the game?
Why was the scoreboard even changed? At an event where numerous content creators, journalists, and even we from MeinMMO were able to play Battlefield 2042, this question was also raised.
The developers’ answer: It is difficult to display 128 players on a board in the middle of a match. However, the players do not accept this; they suggest simply incorporating a scrollable scoreboard.
Whether the feature will come to the game in the near future remains to be seen. If the pressure from fans is maintained, it is at least conceivable.
What do you think about the debate? Do you find the scoreboard just as important? Would you also like to have a scoreboard like in Battlefield 4?
