New World finally received the long-awaited server transfers. However, this brings a problem: by exploiting a bug, an endless amount of coins can be generated, the currency of New World. Amazon has already confirmed that a gold exploit exists. The particularly spicy part is that uninvolved players can allegedly be punished for it.
What is this exploit? In a thread on reddit some players are currently discussing a severe bug in New World. With this bug, it should be possible to create coins by deliberately generating an error at the right moment.
The bug causes a player to receive coins from the exploiter without the exploiter losing any coins. This simply doubles the traded amount. There are already “millions” of duplicated gold coins in circulation.
However, this possibility only exists since server transfers became available in New World. Amazon has gifted every player a free transfer; transferred characters can now apparently exploit the bug.
Supposedly, real-money trading in New World is flourishing due to the gold exploit
What is the problem with this? According to players, the exploit has led to an enormous trade of coins for real money. One explains that acquaintances of his earned hundreds of US dollars in just a few hours. A ban is therefore of no concern to them – they have made good money.
In another thread on reddit a player also reports that there are already victims of the exploiters. One cannot defend against receiving the coins, but will still be punished by Amazon if one “uses” the exploit.
Furthermore, the coins are a major problem for the game’s economy. Some players report that prices for resources on their servers have already increased by a thousand times.
Two classes in the game: Unlimited coins vs. Barter trade
This is how it looks for other players: Ironically, the tone in most other places is that there is a shortage of coins. Many players complain that there are too few ways to earn coins.
Everything costs something, one constantly needs money – but hardly receives any. Since the total amount of gold is low, but fees for crafting, respecing, and more apply, this leads to deflation. Even housing costs taxes.
The consequence: Parts of the community have now switched to barter trade. Here, coins are simply missing because the currency cannot be generated as easily as in other MMOs.
In New World, there is no way to simply sell unused items to an NPC. Thus, it is not possible for coins to be generated simply by grinding – only through exploits or some tricks:
What is Amazon doing about it? In the official forum it is mentioned that they are working on a problem with transferring. It sounds as if the bug is related to this problem. At the same time, exploiters are to be punished.
This should happen without a patch – and apparently also without a rollback. However, players are concerned that the game’s economy will be sustainably damaged if progress is not reset.
They therefore advise not to log in for the time being, but to wait until the problem is fixed. Just to avoid becoming a victim of the exploiters. Thus, this bug joins several other issues that are still pending:
Update 22.10.2021: Amazon has now responded to the problem and quite radically:
New World disables the most important new feature after just a few hours
