Players have discovered a bug in Marvel Rivals that weakens your heroes. Some fans accuse the hero shooter on Steam of being “Pay2Win”.
What kind of bug is this? Some hero abilities in Marvel Rivals are noticeably weaker when your game runs at a lower frame rate. This causes some attacks to not land properly or take longer to finish off opponents.
Heroes deal more damage at higher FPS
Clips on TikTok and Reddit show how the bug affects the game. Heroes like Wolverine and Starlord attack slower during their Ultimate, and Magik’s dash has a shorter range. These differences are already noticeable when playing at 60 instead of 120 FPS.
Currently, the following heroes seem to be affected:
- Doctor Strange
- Wolverine
- Venom
- Magik
- Starlord
The easiest solution for this bug so far is to reduce the graphic quality. If that’s not enough, you would have to get a more powerful gaming PC to compensate for the disadvantage. This is where the accusation of Pay2Win comes in – those who invest more money in their hardware have an unfair advantage.
Not Pay2Win, but still annoying
What does Pay2Win mean?
Pay2Win refers primarily to competitive games in which you can secure gameplay advantages through real money. If you can spend a few euros to buy an item that strengthens your character, it is called Pay2Win.
Is this really Pay2Win? According to the definition of the term, this is not Pay2Win. Developer NetEase did not intentionally include this advantage to charge players. Furthermore, higher FPS always provide a certain advantage in competitive games.
Even if Marvel Rivals shouldn’t be immediately accused of Pay2Win practices, the developers should nevertheless fix this bug quickly. After all, it diminishes the enjoyment of the game when you don’t know if your opponent played better or just invested more money in their gaming PC.
Within the first two weeks, Marvel Rivals has reportedly welcomed over 20 million players according to developer NetEase. The community celebrates the high quality of the game – despite this bug.
