While the bots in WoW Classic are quite annoying, this player was apparently thrown out of the game unfairly. At the worst possible time.
What happened to the player? A user writes on Reddit that he was mistakenly banned by Blizzard because they confused him with a bot. He has been grinding for the achievement “The Insane” for weeks, explains Shamm-Bamm. Fortunately, Blizzard intervened after the publication of the Reddit post and unbanned the player. But first, he was frustrated.
We show you how the story unfolded.
16 Hours Ban for Grinding – What Was the Problem?
What kind of achievement is that? Completing the achievement “The Insane” rewards you with the title “The Insane.” However, this achievement is probably the hardest in the game, considering how much time you have to invest. You must reach the reputation status “Friendly” with various factions and “Exalted” with others.
It involves factions like Booty Bay, Gadgetzan, Ratchet, and also the Darkmoon Faire. You have to slay opponents for hours. Additionally, visiting dungeons is necessary to obtain items that can be exchanged for reputation at the Darkmoon Faire.
The problem was: Ironically, grinding dungeons seemed to be a problem for Shamm-Bamm. The game probably mistook him for a bot as he kept moving in and out of instances and resetting them.
However, unlike bots, Shamm-Bamm did not use automated processes, but played everything manually. Without using third-party software.
I have never violated the terms of service in this game and have been playing since the launch of Classic, it’s quite ridiculous how this happened. I suspect I was flagged as a bot for resetting the dungeons or something. I remember seeing someone else post something similar while they were farming for this achievement.
In his defense, the user provided some screenshots on Reddit that he took during his grinding sessions over the past weeks. His guild could also confirm that the player did not bot. Because during his grind, he communicated with them in guild chat and Discord, he says.
Moreover, the ban came at an unfortunate time. He had to cancel his raid that evening because of it.
The happy ending: After about 16 hours, user Shamm-Bamm reported that he was unbanned. Apparently, WoW’s anti-cheat system mistakenly identified him as a bot. Because WoW Classic has been fighting wild bots for a long time.
