A player had to find out how cruel Elden Ring can really be. As if the dangerous environment and its inhabitants were not bad enough, the player was confronted with a situation that made the experience a nightmare.
What did the player report? On Reddit, the player reports an experience that took place during co-op with a colleague. He was invaded by an opposing player, which is a normal game mechanic in the online mode of Elden Ring. However, things followed that cannot be counted as part of the “normal” gaming experience at all. The player even suspects he was hacked. He also provides the accompanying video.
“I was invaded in the Caria Manor, which immediately separated my friend, so he went afk for a minute. The strange things that happened towards the end [of the video] began, which is why I ran confused out of the gate, started recording, and went back in. The next time I wanted to leave, I was trapped, and the following happened.” – TysL9

An invader made Elden Ring even more threatening than it already is
What happened during the attack? The player was trapped in the vicinity of Caria Manor, bombarded with severe weather, whose particle effects could cause headaches, and then focused and crushed at the same time by the worst enemies of the place, the giant hands in all variations.
The video shows how the player was completely stun-locked in the grabbing animation of the hands and could do nothing but watch the chaos unfold. For the grand finale, an Arcana attack occurred, the particle effects of which, combined with those of the weather, the bug, and the invader himself, caused the entire game to crash.
The player is visibly confused but seems amused, as can be seen from his laughter in the video.
What does the community say about it? The reactions on Reddit range from the possibility of a hacker attack and frustration toward griefers who want to crash the opponent’s game during invasions to the simple “skill issue”.
- Yaxion thinks: “‘Hacked’ is a much too dignified word for these people. They are script kiddies who have nothing better to do in life than ruin the experiences of others.”
- obiwanCannoli69 comments: “It almost looks like they wanted to crash the game or at least affect the framerate by layering different particle effects. Lame.”
- Perunq has a simple explanation: “He just had the better gaming chair”.
What does this mean for the upcoming release of Nightreign? It is nothing new that there are enough players whose fun comes from ruining the experience of other players. While in Elden Ring one can choose to play offline, in Nightreign, the new co-op spin-off of the game, this will not be possible. Those who do not play with friends will be paired with random players.
