The Echo of Lilith is the toughest boss in Diablo 4 – and one player faced her twice. He emerged victorious from the first attempt, but the second ended tragically: His character with 112 play hours was gone.
What kind of boss is this? The Echo of Lilith, or “Uber Lilith”, is the toughest boss in the Torment levels. You don’t have to summon her, you can just visit her cave and fight her. The battle against Lilith is considered a true test of strength for any build and regularly sparks discussions: While some say Lilith is super easy, others despair at her.
A player reports on Reddit that he defeated Lilith in Diablo 4’s hardcore mode. In this mode, a death of the player character is permanent – if he dies, there’s no respawn. The mode – and a technical fail – proved fatal for his druid.
Another player lost his characters – without even fighting tough bosses:

What did the player forget? In his Reddit post, General_abby explains that he defeated Lilith for the first time in hardcore mode. Then he realized he forgot to start the video recording – that was basically worse than being killed by her. After a break, he dared the second run – but this time it did not go well for him. Lilith did not die, dealt enormous damage – and his hero passed away.
General_abby shows a screenshot of his hero in the comments. His druid was a seasonal character at Paragon level 257 – he spent a total of 112 hours with him in Season 7. He writes: “RIP Fiacla-Géar, Conqueror of the Hardcore Echo of Lilith! And fallen by the hand of the Daughter of Hatred. May the Oak be with you – may your loot be legendary in the afterlife.”
This was the problem: In the comments, there is much sympathy from the community – and the hint: Lilith goes through all her phases – even if she theoretically has no health points left. General_abby dealt enough damage, but his druid did not survive the final phase just before Lilith was finished off. This is shown in the YouTube video that he added.
As ThePhoenixus explains: “Yes, [Lilith] always goes through her phases, no matter how quickly you kill her. You have to survive all three phases where she destroys the platform. […] It is literally one of the least fun and worst fights ever designed in an RPG.”
The tough boss fight is often criticized by the community. While defeating Lilith in Diablo 4 earns you a cool title and the right to brag – there’s no significant loot. The only guaranteed drop is a magnificent spark on the first kill. No exclusive Mythic Uniques, no special unique items that only she drops. This frustrates some players. Many feel: The fight against Lilith is not fun and is not really worth it at all.
