A player has perfectly prepared for his journey. But on the plane, he realizes that he has forgotten the most important thing.
Many gamers take their gaming setup with them when they travel. After all, one is reluctant to give up their favorite hobby while on the go. A player has taken his entire gaming PC onto the plane. However, it seems he has forgotten the most important thing.
Gaming PC on board, but forgot Steam
What did he forget? After connecting his entire gaming system on the plane and starting his computer, he realizes: He forgot to install Steam. And without Steam, he cannot access his games. He explains this in a post on reddit.
If he had instead flown with the Steam Deck, he couldn’t have forgotten the installation of Steam.
Some players are already joking in the comments that he can now only play “Solitaire” on the hours-long flight. This is the standard card game that is pre-installed on every Windows system. Microsoft has long since phased out Minesweeper and the popular 3D Pinball under Windows.
Can’t he download Steam on the plane? The user explained in another post on reddit that the Wi-Fi on the plane is a disaster and would not be sufficient for a download.
Airplanes offer outlets, many are now switching to USB-C
Can you plug in your PC on the plane? Yes, some airplanes, especially in “First Class”, offer power outlets at their seats that provide enough power. However, the trend among aircraft manufacturers and companies is to offer USB-C sockets in airplanes. This is more widespread, and you may not need an adapter for the installed outlet (depending on the country).
However, the user also explains in a post that he has built a system that consumes very little power: “It’s also an SFF build (7800X3D + RTX 4000 SFF) that has been tuned with CO and a PPT limit of 65W, so it draws very little power.”
The RTX 4000 SFF Ada is a workstation GPU with two slots and a low profile. It generally requires less power than proper gaming graphics cards.
He has at least pleasantly surprised the flight attendants, he explained, “and a nice lady even complimented me and asked how it works.”
Another player does not take his gaming PC on journeys, instead, he just leaves it powered on all the time. Why he hasn’t turned off the PC even after 5 years and why he doesn’t plan to, you can read on MeinMMO: A player lets his gaming PC run continuously for 5 years – explains there’s no reason to turn it off
