A player posted several pictures of a completely destroyed PS5. The outer shell is missing, the fan is torn from its mount, and the console is quite battered otherwise. This console was likely brought to him by a friend because he had no idea what to do with the broken thing.
However, the tech-savvy player began to restore the console: He cleaned and dried the components and repaired the connections. Eventually, the console started up again. In a post on reddit, he now asked whose PS5 this belonged to:
I managed to get it started. If you live in STL (St. Louis) and (possibly) your girlfriend or wife threw your PS5 out the window: I have it here and it’s yours. I’m not sure, but the warranty might have expired. Send me a message so I can verify your PSN [Editor’s note: PlayStation account].
What happened to the PS5? No one knows for sure. Some speculate that it must have been the owner’s wife, while others guess that the player lost an important match and therefore had to discard the poor console in the snow.
Many users also give him hints on how he can find the owner: If he is still logged into the PS5, he could send him a message directly on his PSN account and thereby track down the owner. This way, he could also find out whether the whole incident was intentional or just a stupid mistake.
Community is in disbelief at how people treat their expensive hardware
This is not the first example where hardware is shown in a completely neglected state. For instance, a YouTuber bought a PS5 for 100 euros that its owner had destroyed. Particularly during the years of the Corona pandemic, many users wondered how one could treat items that are hardly available so poorly. When people deliberately destroy their hardware, it always causes disbelief.
Specifically, consoles or expensive graphics cards are still a valuable luxury for many people, as these things normally cost a lot of money. Some players have to save for months to fulfill their dreams. Therefore, an action like this, where someone discards their console in the snow, is met with incomprehension.
If you are dissatisfied with your hardware, don’t destroy it or throw it away; sell it or give it away instead. This way, you will make another person happy who knows how to handle it better. For example, an old graphics card can still serve well for years. A particularly popular NVIDIA graphics card is now even more useful thanks to AMD.
