A student from Thailand has died in the capital city of Bangkok. The reason was the mobile MMO Arena of Valor, for which the player was looking for the optimal signal and fell to his death.
How the student died: A 21-year-old student from the city of Chiang Mai in northern Thailand tragically died during a trip to the capital city of Bangkok.
The reason was likely the popular mobile MOBA Arena of Valor. The student was staying at a hotel with friends and wanted to play a round of the highly popular mobile MOBA in Asia.
However, his mobile reception was poor, and the player was looking for a location with better reception. He eventually went out of the room onto the balcony, where he suspected a better connection.
Signal search ends fatally
Initially, everything seemed to be going smoothly, but then the student’s character suddenly stopped moving in the game. His friends went to check what was going on and went out to the balcony. There they encountered a horrific sight.
Their friend had apparently fallen from the hotel balcony while searching for the signal and had died.
His phone was reportedly still lying next to the body. According to the local police, the incident was indeed a tragic accident. A suicide is currently being ruled out based on the investigations.
What is Arena of Valor? The “Mobile LoL” from China is especially popular in Asia and offers quick MOBA rounds on smartphones and the Switch. The game has already caused scandals in China, as teenagers became almost addicted to it.
That’s why, back then, playtime restrictions were introduced to protect children and teenagers from gaming addiction.
Arena of Valor is considered extremely immersive. Players get as immersed in the mobile MOBA as desktop players do in League of Legends. This apparently proved to be fatal for the young Thai.
