A player ordered a graphics card on Amazon, but instead, he received rice and noodles. He fears that Amazon will not take his return seriously. He is not the first person to receive fake products on Amazon.
What did the player do? The user Ok-Atmosphere7655 explained on Reddit that he had saved for months for an RTX 5090. He has a very large monitor from Samsung and explained that he needed such a high-end graphics card because of it.
Finally, he ordered his RTX 5090 on Amazon in the Netherlands. He ordered from Amazon because the graphics card was available there at the lowest price. But that turned out to be a disastrous mistake.
Rice, noodles, and an ancient graphics card
What did the player receive? Amazon did deliver the official box of the RTX 5090, but inside was not an RTX 5090; instead, there was rice, noodles, and an ancient graphics card. He could not believe it and explained that he contacted Amazon directly. He fears that Amazon will not really take him seriously.
Of course, I immediately got in touch with Amazon. They made me wait several days, and finally, I was asked to take a series of photos, which I did. They then asked me to return the package to Amazon so they can check the order, but I have this terrible feeling in my stomach that they will not take this seriously.
Ok-Atmosphere7655 added: He has purchased from Amazon many times and also ordered his expensive monitor for 2,000 euros there, and usually everything has gone well, “but you only need to get the short end of the stick once to end up being seriously screwed. I have no idea how this could even happen, and I just want to wake up from this nightmare.”
What happens next? The player explained that he has to return the package with the noodles, rice, and graphics card back to Amazon, who want to look into the incident.
Scams and fraud with PC hardware are becoming more common on Amazon
What is the problem with such fraud? At first glance, the purchased product and the seller appear reliable. Like in this case, where the graphics card was delivered in the original box.
The exchange in the box is often only noticed by the next buyer if Amazon does not personally check the product’s content. Other scammers use different tricks and try to lure the buyer away from Amazon.
Can you protect yourself against this? Many people now recommend making a video when unpacking particularly expensive hardware:
- If you then hold fake goods or a wrong product in your hands, you at least have the proof on your side. Otherwise, Amazon may accuse you of having packed the rice into the box yourself.
- Furthermore, you can prove that you did not swap the goods, but that someone else must have handled the package before you.
