Not always do the best weapons and the fastest reflexes bring victory in Call of Duty: Warzone. Often, it is tactical considerations that provide an advantage and lead to success. A player has impressively demonstrated this once again and perfected the tactic of “playing dead” in Warzone.
Call of Duty: Warzone is essentially a survival game – the one who lasts the longest wins. Something similar applies in nature. Living beings have developed clever strategies to secure their survival. Some players like to imitate these and use survival tactics that have been effective for millions of years.
One of these tactics is playing dead. Animals like the American opossum lie motionless in front of their predators, not to appear as a tasty snack, but rather as an old piece of meat that has already seen its best days. This way, they can deter enemies that are not attracted to rotting carrion. This also works in Warzone.
Player plays dead and outsmarts even attentive enemies
What does that look like? On the discussion platform reddit, user “Dutton90” shared a clip demonstrating how he falls for one of the oldest tricks in the book:
What happened? In the enemy’s situation, motionlessness would actually mean death. Normally, one can distinguish quite well in Warzone which players are still active and which are just remnants of a battle. But the opponent does it perfectly and seems to have practiced playing dead.
Dutton runs up the stairs and sees the supposed corpse lying in the corner. He walks past it but then takes damage from the direction of the “corpse” and throws another, scrutinizing glance at the motionless body. Dutton even scopes the enemy briefly and would only have to pull the trigger. But the enemy looks dead – no doubt. And Dutton runs on.
Suddenly, the enemy in the corner comes to life, giving Dutton little chance. While he manages to break the armor of the one playing dead, the advantage of the Warzone opossum is simply too great.
Why did it work? Motionlessness works well as camouflage in shooters like Warzone. Our eyes are conditioned to detect the movement of an opponent because enemies are usually always in motion. Together with good camouflage, one can regularly outsmart enemies this way.
However, at short distances and with the bright neck scarf, these are not the best conditions for effective camouflage. The unusual position on the flower pot makes the trick so genius. The neck and head of the one playing dead are positioned in such a way due to the awkward positioning that strongly resembles dead bodies in Warzone. When running past quickly and also during the second check of the enemy, it is not immediately obvious that the opponent on the flower pot is still alive.
This made the one playing dead actually appear as if he had already fallen. A piece of carrion that one would ruin their stomach with. Bad luck for Dutton, who falls for the nasty trick and says, “Most of the time I hate this game.”.
Commentators are laughing their heads off at the move
What do the players say about it? On reddit, the clip is received quite well and has over 4,000 upvotes and more than 150 comments after just 2 days. Many commentators emphasize how funny they find the clip:
- Brilliant-Drama-9798: “This made me laugh so hard that I now have a headache.”
- friended1: “I have watched the video many times. I’m dying.”
- YossiOsman: “I can’t stop laughing ?.”
Tactical approaches and a good understanding of Warzone mechanics can provide you with significant advantages over your enemies. Playing dead is surely an extraordinary tactic and not always practical. But it can work, and this applies to other small tricks with which you can outsmart your enemies’ senses. For example, there is also a simple parachute trick that can acoustically deceive your enemies.
If you also have a few small tricks up your sleeve for outsmarting your opponents, feel free to leave a comment on MeinMMO.
