In the first of two phases of the 2nd beta of Monster Hunter Wilds, players were able to face two additional monsters. One of them caused widespread despair. A newcomer managed to defeat the strongest monster of the beta just in time.
Which monster is it? The monster that cost many hunters their nerves last weekend is the flagship monster of Monster Hunter Wilds: Arkveld. Flagship monsters are a type of ‘boss monster’ – particularly strong opponents that essentially represent the ‘final boss’ of every Monster Hunter game. Therefore, it was clear to many players that confronting Arkveld would not be easy.
Numerous experienced players literally bit their teeth on it, as various threads on Reddit show, where hunters lament their plight and celebrate those who succeed (via Reddit). It’s no wonder, then, that newcomers had an even harder time with it.
The unique difficulty in the beta lay not only with the monster itself but also with the tight time limit of 20 minutes for the hunt. Many therefore failed or only managed to defeat it just in time. A newcomer is now sharing his story on Reddit and is being celebrated for it – as he had never played a single Monster Hunter game before.
“As a newcomer? You’re a natural talent!”
What story does the player share? In his thread, user Wingnut7489 shares some screenshots with the words: “Arkveld defeated. For me as a newcomer, it feels great.” He had never played a single Monster Hunter game before and is now proud to have defeated all the monsters in the beta, including Arkveld. During this run, he didn’t even die once. Just under 2 minutes before the timer ended, his group of 2 newcomers and 2 veterans finally managed to defeat the monster.
How does the community react? In the comments, he receives admiration from the community:
- denofgames01 writes: “Well done. He is a great fighter, but the timer is a killer.”
- JargoCHL celebrates him: “As a newcomer? You’re a natural talent!”
- HyenDry ceremoniously welcomes him to the ranks of hunters: “Newcomer in the sense of your first Monster Hunter? Welcome, OP! I can’t wait until you can play the whole game.”
- Draxsis_Felhunter congratulates: “Congratulations on defeating the hardest monster in the second open beta set.”
Alongside the admiring comments, there are also some veterans who provide tips to him and all other players who had trouble with Arkveld on how they ultimately succeeded.
What tips do the veterans have? For example, user Joeljb960 advises mixing the armor set and equipping the following pieces when facing Arkveld (via Reddit):
- 3 parts of the Doshaguma set (chest, helm, legs)
- 1 part of the Hope set (arms)
- 1 part Chatacabra (hips)
It is also important to strengthen yourself with meals beforehand and focus on not getting knocked out since the way back to the monster would take too much time. Additionally, a weak point presents itself on his arms after his big dragon explosion. Through this, one can use focus mode to knock him down for about 3 seconds and deal a lot of damage. Others recommend capturing him instead of defeating him. This would save a considerable amount of time.
