A player loses all his belongings in a fire. Thanks to insurance, he gets a few items reimbursed, but in the end, there isn’t enough money left to buy a new computer. That’s when the manufacturer steps in for him.
A gamer lost all his possessions and pets in a fire and was lucky to come away with his life. After the fire, he had to replace many things despite having insurance, but it wasn’t enough for a new gaming PC.
So, he reached out to the PC manufacturer where he purchased his last device and was positively surprised by their support. The company replaced his gaming PC at no additional cost.
Gaming PC not insured against fire, manufacturer still helps
The gamer explained himself that he bought the PC at the end of 2022 and also purchased an expensive warranty for $400. However, the problem was that the warranty does not cover fire. But he had luck in misfortune. He explains (via reddit.com):
I bought the PC at the end of 2022 and added the $400 warranty. Unfortunately, the warranty does not cover fire. In a last attempt, I contacted SkyTech Gaming to see if there was any support for something like this. The representative was very friendly, and within a few weeks, my PC was delivered!!! A big thank you to Skytech Gaming, as I was not able to purchase the device anytime soon.
The gamer explained in another post that he still had to prove the fire to the manufacturer, but that went quite quickly: On the one hand, he was able to show proof photos, and on the other hand, there were newspaper articles about the fire, and the shipping address matched the address of the fire.
How does the community react? They are glad that the PC company supported him so strongly. Many are also upset about the loss of his pets and wish him all the best. He himself explains that this loss weighs the heaviest, more than the loss of his apartment and computer.
Some say that there are still a few “good guys” out there who care about gamers (and customers). This is in the spirit of Skytech Gaming.
What was the problem with the insurance? Others ask why one would have to pay $400 (around 360 euros) for insurance that doesn’t even cover fire. After all, the insurance would cost almost as much as half a computer.
However, the injured party explains that the insurance would only cover damage to components, but not water or fire damage. If the graphics card or his processor had broken, the warranty would have covered the damage.
In Germany, your household insurance typically covers damages caused by fire or storm. General terms and conditions often contain clauses stating that in cases of force majeure, the affected contracting party may be relieved from the obligation to perform. This is referenced, for example, by GEV insurance. However, this refers to wars or other extreme disasters.
Definitely consult an insurance expert or a lawyer if you are uncertain about what you are currently insured for.
