A fan of the Pokémon games is one of the experts when it comes to the world of joyful companions. However, during a conversation with an acquaintance, it became clear to him that he has always played all the games wrong.
Who is it about? On Reddit, the user Diligent-Oil-6405 shares what happened to him. Since he was 6 years old, he has been fascinated by Pokémon and has owned a game from every generation since then. According to his own statements, he was even ranked number 1 in Pokémon trivia in his state at one point.
The player is therefore a true expert when it comes to the monsters. However, 14 years after he became enthusiastic about Pokémon, he had to realize that he had always played the games wrong.

Cognitive error with 6 only becomes apparent 14 years later
What has he always done wrong? During a completely normal conversation about Pokémon with a friend, the user realized that he had made a mistake from the very beginning when playing.
In English, one of the messages that appears when a Pokémon breaks free while trying to catch it is “It appeared to be caught!” This translates roughly to “It seemed to be caught!” in German. The then 6-year-old interpreted that as the Pokémon already being the property of another trainer and defeated it after that message appeared every time instead of catching it.
This caused him to miss not only regular but also some legendary Pokémon. Since this message does not always come up, it never seemed strange to the trainer himself.
It was only through the conversation with a friend that he realized he had been carrying on the cognitive error he made at the age of 6 until today.

- RepresentativeGene47 can’t believe it on Reddit and writes: “Did you never decide to just throw another ball?!?”
