Baldur’s Gate 3 is full of challenging battles. Legends have emerged in the community around one of them. So much so, that new players fear the boss. Without reason, as one player has now discovered: the boss didn’t even get a turn.
Spoiler Alert: We are discussing a fight from Act 3 of Baldur’s Gate 3 here. If you haven’t gotten that far yet and don’t want to know who it’s about, you should not continue reading.
Which fight are we talking about?
- Raphael is a devil you meet early in the game. He is an important figure who can help you in the fight against the Absolute – but he also uses you for his own purposes.
- In Act 3, you have the option to break into his house and steal powerful items. He doesn’t like that, of course, and fights back.
- Finally, he faces you in an epic battle, which many players celebrate solely because of the musical accompaniment. However, Raphael is considered one of the hardest boss fights in the game alongside the nasty fight against Cazador.
So, Raphael suddenly became quite easy: Stories about how Raphael sends players across the river with just a snap of his fingers quickly spread throughout the community. At least one player was seriously intimidated by that.
Reddit user TalkSin_M writes: As much as he had heard about the fight, he wanted to prepare really well. His strategy worked, and the victory finally came from a summoned Earth Elemental.
While the player and his crew waited under a dome of invulnerability, his summoned elementals did the rest of the work. A few destroyed the pillars and enemies in the arena, while the Earth Elemental took care of Raphael.
Earth Elementals have the special ability to make enemies “prone.” They become immobile and need to get up first. Raphael then tries to move and immediately suffers an opportunity attack.
This caused the Earth Elemental to knock the devil down every round in the fight against Raphael – until only he was left. TalkSin_M’s team then positioned themselves around him and slowly chipped away at his health bar.
This is how you can cast 2 spells in one go:
“The dumb guy slips every round”
In the comments, there is surprisingly much agreement that elementals, in particular, are incredibly useful for this and generally tough boss battles. Druids seem to have an advantage here, especially the Circle of the Moon, which ranks in the S-Tier of the tier list.
Moon Druids can transform themselves into elementals and gain all the bonuses they would normally have, such as additional attacks and buffs. In the right combination, 3 elementals would surround the enemy and batter him.
Other users prefer to rely on ice surfaces. Raphael is not particularly agile; he slips every round and can’t do anything about it. Players who trust the undisputed best class in the game instead control Raphael with Otto’s irresistible dance or Tasha’s horrendous laughter.
However, where most agree is that the healing pool in Raphael’s private chambers should be used right after the fight, preferably after you have summoned everything you want to summon. Elementals remain afterward, and you still have full health and spell slots.
If you don’t want to deal with control spells, you can also just defeat Raphael (and almost any other boss) with brute force. This was shown by a player who tried to play as a fighter with bows. She only needed 2 rounds to defeat Raphael directly – practically without any resistance.
