Since June 5, 2025, the Nintendo Switch 2 is available, but not everyone is enthusiastic about the release. Many users are particularly frustrated with retailers who are unable to process sales properly. One user had to come up with something special just to be able to buy a Switch 2.
One user reports on Reddit that he was at MediaMarkt at the launch to buy a Nintendo Switch 2. He had ordered a console, but he was missing the pickup confirmation for the online purchase. Therefore, he wanted to alternatively buy one directly in the store.
However, the staff at MediaMarkt denied him the purchase, stating, “You have ordered, so you must wait for the delivery of your order.”

To still get his console, the user came up with a plan: he called his mother-in-law, who promptly rushed to help him. The annoyed user explains:
[I just] quickly called my mother-in-law. “Hey, come to MediaMarkt and buy me something!” I used the waiting time to walk over to the ATM and withdrew 500 Euros. 15 minutes later, she pulled up. To make sure the “saleswoman” at MediaMarkt did not see that we know each other, I waved her over, discreetly handed her the money, and told her what she needed to buy.
Five minutes later, I had the console bundle in my hands, could of course cancel my online order, immediately got my money back for that, and made my way home with a smile while somewhat stunned.
User experiences when buying the Switch 2 are very mixed
How have other users fared? The results and responses are very mixed. German users report very differently about their experiences in the German Nintendo Reddit. Many get their Switch 2 without problems in retail, while others are upset.
One person explained that their local MediaMarkt had opened all consoles, performed a “first setup,” and charged 30 Euros extra for the service. An action that many users view very critically in the thread on Reddit.
