In Final Fantasy XIV, a player spent nearly two years and over 800 hours mastering the toughest challenge for soloists. He defeated the Palace of the Dead as a simple Druid all by himself.
How did he achieve success? Even though the new expansion for Final Fantasy XIV, Dawntrail, was recently released, there are still players who prefer to focus on the old content.
One of them is Aurora. The content creator has made it his mission to master the toughest challenges for single players.
The Palace of the Dead had been on his agenda for quite some time. The dungeon is different with each entry and presents increasingly difficult challenges to groups of 1 – 4 players as they descend further down. Every 10 floors, players encounter a boss enemy.
Starting from level 101, the dungeon can no longer be entered with a random group due to its difficulty. However, Aurora does not need a group anyway.

The challenge lasted nearly two years
How many attempts did it take him to succeed? Aurora completed the challenge on his 62nd attempt. “I spent almost two years of my life climbing the Palace of the Dead daily as a Druid,” he wrote in his post on X.com.
While 62 attempts may not sound like much, the game hours for this challenge amount to quite a bit more: “I lost over 800 hours because of this. I canceled so much to enable these streams. July 14, 2024. 62nd attempt.”
Angelus Demonus, another player known for his runs in deep dungeons like the Palace of the Dead or the Heaven’s Pillar, praised the Druid player’s achievement on X.com: “The dedication to his craft is unparalleled.”
Is this his first challenge? No, Aurora continuously attempts challenges for soloists, but this was his toughest one yet. In a stream, he explained that he only needed one attempt to master the dungeon Heaven’s Pillar. The dungeon works almost exactly like the Palace of the Dead.
Now that Aurora has gained some time, he can immediately turn to the latest content in Final Fantasy XIV Dawntrail.
