Players in Destiny 2 spend a lot of time deleting blue gear and items. They clog up the Post and the Vault and need to be deleted regularly. However, when player and YouTuber HoldenAGrenade was recently deleting blue gear, his wife inspired an idea when she asked: “Have you ever played something solo with blues?”
He actually had not. Usually, as a player in Destiny 2, one eventually only focuses on legendary, i.e. purple armor and weapons. They provide the strongest stats and options for builds. Blue items no longer matter in the endgame.
Unless you accept your wife’s challenge, invest 8 Ascendant Shards in blue gear, and aim to complete the new Dungeon “Sog der Habsucht” flawlessly.
These blue weapons were used in the flawless run of the new dungeon:
- Weapons: Holless-IV (Kinetic Bow), Nox Cordis II (Arc Fusion Rifle) and the Arc Linear Fusion Rifle Kingcobra 4FR to utilize Particle Deconstruction.
HoldenAGrenade also combined blue gear and mods:
- Prophet’s Snow – Arc Helm with Resilience Mod and Linear Fusion Rifle Ammo Finder
- Prophet’s Snow – Arc Armored with Discipline Mod and a Linear Fusion Rifle Loader
- Atonement Shell – Arc Chest Armor with Resilience Mod, Arc Damage Resistance
- Atonement Shell – Solar Leg Armor (Discipline Mod, Fusion Rifle Scavenger, Linear Fusion Rifle Scavenger)
- Stagnant Rebuke, Void Mark (Particle Deconstruction, Resilience Mod)
Due to the completely blue gear, he not only had a significant disadvantage when using his abilities. He also couldn’t rely on strong exotics for weapons or armor. His setup was completed by the blue 150 Sparrow “Athene, the Victorious”.
Even though it took almost two full hours to complete the new dungeon, he managed to achieve a flawless finish after a few initial attempts. How exactly this successful run went, he shows you on YouTube:
His tip on Reddit for other Destiny 2 players: “You just have to keep trying and sometimes know when you need to change things.”
What does the community say about the underpowered run?
The Destiny 2 community respects his attempt and the ultimately successful completion of the activity. Many players have been trying for a long time with their flawless run and fail even with legendary purple gear and the best exotics. While it is possible, it is not easy.
The player Gbrew555 comments:
Great job!! It really shows that most PvE content in this game is playable with any loadout [and of course with the right amount of skill!]
And provocatrixless, also a Destiny 2 player, finds:
Downgrading to blue gear requires skill, but most people would never play with blue gear. The average player will have some good purple gear and weapons and can do everything with that. […] Top meta is overrated and you don’t need the top 5% of godroll weapons plus catalyzed exotic loadouts [to be successful].
Players love special challenges: This is not the first run where players intentionally use weaker items to prove that the best guardians in Destiny 2 don’t need perfect gear to be successful. Notably, Esoterickk (via YouTube) is among the players who like to take it a step further. In 2019, he fully played a Nightfall with green gear.
And even in the Sparrow race, Esoterickk has already proven in the dungeon “Sog der Habsucht” that you don’t even need a Sparrow to succeed in the encounter.
The hunt for perfect gear does not make you better: One thing this run has shown: It’s not always the gear that makes a good player in Destiny 2. The better a player becomes, the less important their gear also becomes. Moreover, players will continue to push boundaries and give themselves tougher tasks. This raises the bar for impressive performances even higher.
What do you think of the run? Do you think this is a special achievement by HoldenAGrenade or can any player basically do this? Would you dare to try it yourself?
