Call of Duty: Vanguard is plagued by players using unfair methods to secure high ranks in Ranked Play despite poor performance. A player who has taken advantage of this particularly shamelessly has now been severely punished. Read the full story here on MeinMMO!
What’s the issue with Ranked right now? In CoD Vanguard Ranked Play, you earn points through wins and continue to climb the ranks. The more Skill Rating (SR) points you have, the higher your rank. The scale goes up to 3,000 points and above, with the last rank only available to 250 players worldwide.
On the other hand, you lose points through defeats and can drop ranks. Naturally, no one wants that, and to avoid the consequences of failure, unscrupulous players often disconnect when a loss seems imminent. A loss that never happens due to the disconnect is not counted.
This is certainly not in line with the developers’ intentions, who want to ensure fair competition. Therefore, they are now taking a strong stance against the worst offenders.
Player oversteps and is severely downgraded
How are the developers reacting? To ensure that Ranked matches are fair and balanced again, the developers have now taken measures. They have analyzed the number of disconnects within the player base.
Among 2 percent of players, excessively high rates of such disconnects were found. According to the developers, this is evidence of unfair behavior, and therefore these players are now being heavily penalized.
The worst offender has even been mentioned on Twitter; he reportedly experienced over 280 disconnects in just 3 weeks. That would average out to 16 disconnects per day!
On Twitter, the developers at Treyarch sarcastically congratulate him on his “success”:
A typical example: The leaderboard player has interrupted his connection more than 280 times since Ranked Play started. Enjoy your -2,000 SR loss, chief. We hope it was worth it.
[Narrator: It wasn’t]
This is how the affected player reacted: The developers’ actions have cost the mentioned player his top rank and are likely to throw him back to the third-worst position.
But the guy takes it with dark humor and quickly responded to the tweet. He cheekily corrects the developers and shows self-irony:
At least do the math when you say I’m supposed to lose 2,000 SR. I’m losing 3,600 points. At least do the math correctly.
He then adds about his new rank: “At least I’m now where I belong”.
So much for cheating in Ranked Play. What do you think of the developers’ crackdown? Will it change anything, or will just more dishonest players come forward, disconnecting whenever things go badly for them? Let us know your opinion in the comments here.
