A player managed to snag an RTX 4090 from Nvidia for just 830 euros. But the joy lasts only a short time. He is in for a nasty surprise when he tries to install the graphics card in his computer.
A player reports that he pulled off quite a coup: He discovered a user on Facebook who wanted to sell an RTX 4090 for only 900 USD (about 830 euros). He didn’t think long and jumped at the price. The current market price for the RTX 4090 is around 1,800 euros.
In his post on Reddit, he explains that there were no cables or original packaging with the graphics card. And now he hopes that the graphics card is indeed an RTX 4090. In the end, he has to realize that there is a completely different problem with the graphics card.
A real RTX 4090, but the graphics card won’t start
Is it an RTX 4090? Yes, according to several users, it should be an official RTX 4090 from ASUS’s TUF series. The serial number is current and even still has a warranty. One person explains that the graphics card must have been purchased from a dealer about a month ago.
The serial number matches an ASUS TUF 4090 OG OC (the card shown), and it is covered by warranty until 2027/10/06, so everything checks out and indicates that the card was purchased from a dealer about a month ago (via Reddit.com).
What is the problem? The player explains in a post a bit later that the graphics card does not start. He himself writes:
- He reset the CMOS.
- He also reinstalled the RAM and switched the slots.
- He also changed the HDMI/DisplayPort cables and even swapped the monitor.
- The motherboard indicates VGA and boot error lights. The monitor remains black without a signal.
- He then reinstalled his old graphics card, a 1660ti, and the computer starts without issues.
At this moment, it becomes clear to him that he must have spent 900 euros on a pile of electronic junk.
How does the community react? On the one hand, with sympathy, on the other hand also a bit mockingly. After all, he violated his own due diligence, trusted a stranger without thinking and handed over a lot of money. In this regard, he has to blame himself for the mistake.
By the way, he is not the first player who wants to buy an RTX 4090 for about 900 euros: A player finds an allegedly great deal for an RTX 4090 for just 900 euros. He claims he wants to take the risk, but everyone warns him against it. In the end, he hopes to at least get his money back via eBay: Player takes a high risk: Orders RTX 4090 for 900 euros and hopes eBay protects him from fraud
