A player from WoW Classic receives an honor in the retail version of the game. The reason for this is that he was a bit foolish during the name reservation in WoW Classic.
The anticipation for World of Warcraft Classic drives some players to act a bit recklessly. One of these incidents was so funny and heartwarming in hindsight that Blizzard is now making its own NPC from it – however in the retail version of WoW. It will feature a Troll Shaman named “Thex” in memory of an incident on Reddit.
What happened? Before the name reservation in WoW Classic began, the user LiterallyABlackBear wrote his own post. There he excitedly spoke about the name he wanted to secure: Thex. He really wanted to create a Troll Shaman named Thex and was already looking forward to exploring Azeroth again with that character.
The community teases Thex: It seems that LiterallABlackBear forgot that revealing the name in advance is a pretty foolish idea. After all, there are many trolls that love to take names from people just to annoy them a bit. That’s exactly what the community played on. They responded with posts and statements like these:
- “The name sounds really cool. I’m taking it.”
- “Is anyone else looking forward to calling themselves Thex?”
- “I am Thex!”
- “Human warrior, because that’s the quickest way to make a selection. My three friends and I will each create 3 characters and name them all Thex on different servers.”
- “I can’t wait to name my level 1 bank alt Thex.”
Even though most of these comments were obviously meant with a lot of irony and humor, the danger was still relatively high that someone would take the name Thex away from him.
The story has a happy ending: As it had to be, Thex could not reserve his name – another player got to it first, namely mipeirong.
However, this player was kind and only secured the name so that the “real” Thex could have it later. In consultation with LiterallyABlackBear, he deleted his Thex, so that the name “Thex” is now with the person who truly wanted it.
Blizzard creates its own NPC
Blizzard honors this story: The developers of WoW found this happy ending story so beautiful that now an NPC named “Thex” is being added in the retail version of WoW, which is already roaming around on the PTR. Thex is a Troll Shaman in Orgrimmar and speaks lines like:
- “I am Thex, Troll Shaman, there are no others like me.”
- “A long time ago, a powerful troll was born. They named him Thex. That is me.”
- “The real Thex stands before you, man.”
- “At the end of the day, we are all Thex.”
In any case, a nice story with a happy ending that shows that even in the age of internet trolls, beautiful moments can still arise.
