When WoW launched over 20 years ago, many Warcraft fans were happy if they could play the MMORPG somewhat smoothly on their PC and with their internet connection. How much has changed since then is now shown in the video from an airplane.
What can be seen in the clip? The WoW player miszkah has posted a short video on Reddit showing how he plays World of Warcraft on his laptop during a flight. The descriptive text for the clip, which has received over 2,700 upvotes so far:
‘Who would have thought that free Wi-Fi on airplanes would one day be stable enough to play WoW at 30,000 feet? Truly, the future is now!’
30,000 feet is nearly 9,150 meters. Later, miszkah added that during the approximately 5-hour domestic flight from New York to San Francisco, he was able to tank the Sunken Temple from WoW Classic without major issues. There were only two disconnections throughout the flight.
Another story from the WoW community is told in this video:
How does the community react to this? They mainly remember their own beginnings in WoW.
- Unable_Philosopher_8 knows this (via Reddit): ‘On my last Delta flight, I played WoW for about 3 hours straight without any issues, on my handheld PC, the MSI Claw 8. The future is now.’
- Mutt-of-Munster writes on Reddit: ‘My self from 2006, who could barely get WoW Vanilla running on the family PC, is fascinated.’
- Professional-Cold278 remembers on Reddit: ‘A friend’s PC was so bad that every time he boarded a boat, the loading time took so long that the boat was already on its way back from the destination. He had about 1 second to jump off the boat or he got the loading screen again.’
- Amelaclya1 explains on Reddit: ‘I remember having to point my camera down and completely zoom in to walk through Ironforge.’
Comparable measures (standing in the corner, not looking at the action, zooming in fully) had to be carried out by some healers in, for example, the Bastion of Twilight to keep WoW somewhat playable while healing teammates.
