You have a high level, but don’t know which affixes are best for your hero in Diablo 4? A YouTuber has taken the time to explain this and tells you why you should be careful about what perks you roll on your gear.
What is a perfect item in Diablo 4? If you have reached the appropriate level to access the endgame, it is time to think about your build. In Diablo 4, there is not one formula for the perfect item, but rather a direction that indicates what you need for the perfect item.
The direction here is your build with the skills and passive effects you have equipped in your talent tree. Based on that, you align your gear so that you can benefit from the right affixes and become stronger, but which affixes are the most important for me? This question is answered by the YouTuber OperatorOtter.

Without damage buckets, no perfect gear
What are damage buckets? Before you start rolling your perfect gear, you need to know how damage buckets work. There are several such “buckets,” which when applied correctly, do not add your damage, but multiply it. This way, you achieve a much more effective build and can achieve higher damage numbers.
The following eight are known in the community so far:
- Base damage
- Main attributes
- Critical hits
- additive damage
- [+]% damage, damage VS = damage against, damage by, damage with
- Vulnerable
- Global multipliers
- Overpower
- Attack speed (more about the DPS)
The focus, as OperatorOtter describes, is to pay attention to these damage buckets when rolling your gear and to choose affixes that have a multiplicative effect on your build.
We explain more about damage buckets and how they work in our guide.
How do I create a perfect piece of gear now? Once you’ve figured out which buckets you can effectively take advantage of in your build, you need to know how to strengthen these buckets. To find that out, you need to understand how your build is set up.
For example: If you play a Bone Spear build for the Necromancer and you want to increase your critical hits, it is important to have the following affixes equipped on your gear:
- Critical hits with core skills
- Critical hits with bones
These two affixes then multiply the large bucket “Critical hits” and that is how you proceed with other equip as well.
If you are unsure which affixes are important, pay attention to your skills and passive effects you have selected in your build and try to strengthen them. A community spreadsheet could help you with that (via docs.google.com). You can do this by rolling the values on your gear that you need to further increase your buckets.
Unfortunately, as OperatorOtter says, there is not one formula that you can follow, because every build is unique, and you must deal with which stats are important for you to benefit from them as much as possible.
