The weapons in Monster Hunter Wilds are not just tools for many, but a part of their personality. One player has shown how often he has seen each weapon, and especially the fans of powerful hammers are not happy.
What does the player’s experience show? User GoodboyLucas posted a personal statistic on Reddit that shows how often he has encountered each weapon during 100 hunts. He describes that after reaching Hunter Rank 41, he tracked which weapons were used.
His statistics are based, according to him, 90% on quests with tempered monsters. He arrives at the following results:
- Long Sword: 15.7%
- Dual Blades: 12.6%
- Great Sword: 11.5%
- Sword and Shield: 10.1%
- Bow: 9.8%
- Energy Blade: 7.7%
- Gunlance: 7.3%
- Morph Axe: 6.3%
- Heavy Bowgun: 5.9%
- Insect Glaive: 3.8%
- Hammer: 2.8%
- Hunting Horn: 2.1%
- Light Bowgun: 2.1%
- Lance: 2.1%
According to his experience, most players find the large blades of the Long Sword and Great Sword quite good. The Long Sword even comes in at 15.7%. The Dual Blades and Sword and Shield also make their way into the top spots as smaller weapons. Both are fast and mobile.
As expected, he discovered the Long Sword most often; it has also been one of the most popular weapons in previous installments. The Great Sword and Dual Blades are also typically popular when compared to older statistics from Monster Hunter World (via Reddit).
What stands out is how high the Gunlance ranks and how low the Hammer is. In our own poll, prior to the release, the Hammer still made it to 2nd place.
Although the statistics are just a personal experience value, the community discusses the distribution of weapons. Especially the enthusiasts of the Hammer are disappointed but also have an explanation for why it is played so rarely.

How does the community react to the data? While some complain about how disorganized the data is presented, many discuss the weapon data. The more frequent use of the Gunlance, according to the statistics, is celebrated. xKnicklichtjedi (via Reddit) believes it is due to the new combos and scaling.
While Hunting Horn users celebrate with saxophone memes, even though they have been quite rare, the Hammer players are sadder. Users like RondogeRekt (via Reddit) report that they found the Hammer strong, but when they tried other weapons, they realized that these are stronger.
Lerijie (via Reddit) switched to Sword and Shield and noticed that this weapon can also stun while being quick and mobile.
In general, it is noticeable in the comments that Hammer users are not satisfied. The weapon currently does not have the necessary firepower
, while other weapons are better than ever. The Hammer fans are joined by Lance players who think the weapon is underrated. MeinMMO editor Nikolas Hernes agrees with this.
However, one should still keep in mind that these are just the personal data of the player. It remains to be seen how the official statistics will turn out. But it can be assumed that the usual representatives (Long Sword, Dual Blades, Great Sword) will be in the top spots.
