In the MMORPG Old School RuneScape (Steam), one player has caught 1 million fish, and always the same kind. When asked if he was doing mentally well, he replied: ‘No’.
What exactly did the player do?
- The player caught a ‘Raw Monkfish’ (Monkfish) 1 million times in Old School RuneScape.
- He started about 3 years ago with the start of the pandemic and fished between 2 to 3 hours every day. In total, he spent 2,500 to 4,500 hours on it, which is an astonishingly long time and an astonishingly vague time span.
- As the player says, he now intends to cook the 1 million fish.
Monkfish relax him somehow
Why is this so pointless? As the site Gamesradar points out, there is simply no logically explainable reason why he caught this monkfish 1 million times.
He can’t have done it for EXP, as his account has 11 times the fishing EXP that one needs for level 99. However, the player claims that he actually still wants to reach the value of 200 million EXP, which is the completely pointless limit for the value ‘Fishing’ in Old School RuneScape.
He also can’t sell the fish, because he plays Ironman and cannot die or trade with others.
And he also can’t do much with the fish itself. Because while monkfish are easy to catch, they aren’t really suitable for healing. Fish of the ‘Karambwans’ type (a type of mollusk) would be much more useful for that. However, the player didn’t catch them because ‘he didn’t find them that relaxing’. Anyone can do whatever they want, he just prefers the monkfish.
This is what the player says: When asked if he was doing mentally well, the player replied with ‘No’. But at least he is proud of his achievement and generally satisfied with everything.
When he was asked why on earth he caught so many useless fish, he replied: ‘That was an inside joke that got out of control.’
One cannot emphasize enough how very strange things happen in Old School RuneScape:
