The sandworms in Dune: Awakening are feared creatures. If your character gets caught, you lose all items from your inventory. A player on Steam has now turned the tables and outsmarted the sandworm.
What is the deal with riding sandworms? The sandworms are among the feared creatures on Arrakis. The monsters move through the sands and dunes of the game world and consume everything that gets in their way. If you get eaten, you lose everything you were carrying. Vehicles are not spared either.
Riding a sandworm through the desert of Dune: Awakening is no easy task. So far, there has been no prescribed way to do this, and no official game mechanic allows it. Nonetheless, a player has managed to do it thanks to a creative approach.
On Reddit, user SgtDolphin shared a clip where he rides on the back of a sandworm through the desert. It is also shown how he does it. Here you can see the clip:
Riding Sandworms Made Easy
How did he manage that? To even get on the back of a sandworm in Dune: Awakening, the right skills are needed. The player in the clip uses the combination of various classes for this.
- On one hand, he has the “Bindu Sprint” from the “Bene Gesserit” class. This makes the character really fast for a short time.
- The other important skill is the grappling hook of the “Trooper” classes. This allows a character to pull themselves to a point.
The player combines these abilities with a clever location. He stands at the top of a dune and waits there for his fateful encounter with the sandworm.
At the right moment, he uses the Bindu Sprint to jump from the dune onto the sandworm. To ensure it works, he also uses the grappling hook ability in the air to actually land on the sandworm’s body. To the astonishment of the community, it works surprisingly well. Although there are some graphical issues indicating that this is not an intended feature, it still works.

How are players reacting? The community is ecstatic. Hardly anyone would have thought that a player could find a way to ride a sandworm so early after the launch. Many comments on Reddit cheer the player on:

Many users on Reddit also comment “Lisan Al-Gaib!”, which in Dune means “The Voice from the Outer World”. It refers to the prophecy that a messiah would come to Arrakis to lead the Fremen to a better future. The sandworm rider takes on this role through his ride, just as Paul Atreides does in the films.
