A player from Ukraine has discovered a skin in Battlefield 2042 that he finds offensive. It shows the “Russian terrorists” who occupied parts of Ukraine. The Battlefield team has announced that they will change the name of the skin.
This is the complaint: On November 12, a player of Battlefield 2042 complained about the skin “Little Green Man” in Battlefield 2042. He wrote on Twitter:
“Do you find it okay to have Russian terrorists in the game as a joke, occupying parts of my country? Why not throw in, I don’t know, ISIS or the Taliban into the mix?”

What kind of skin is this? In Battlefield 2042, there is a specialist, Pytor “Boris” Guskovsky, an engineer born in Russia.
One of his mastery skins is named “Little Green Man.”
Little green men were part of a Russian elite unit
Why is this a problem? The soldiers referred to as “little green men” occupied the Crimean Peninsula in Ukraine in February 2014. The soldiers appeared without identification, lacking flags on their uniforms.
In German, the soldiers were called “grüne Männchen,” armed and masked. They used Russian military equipment, balaclavas, and green Ratnik uniforms. During the annexation of Crimea, they blocked and occupied administrative buildings and Ukrainian barracks.
Initially, Russia denied any connection to the “little green men” – claiming they were “self-defense groups.” However, in March 2015, a Russian general stated that the green men were actually members of a Russian special unit who operated under “deception and concealment measures.”
Battlefield 2042 changes the skin’s name
This is how Battlefield responds to the criticism: Battlefield quickly responded to the input and thanked the player for bringing them up to speed (via twitter).
They stated it was an “unintended reference to a real-world issue” – not reflecting the views of the team’s values.
Thus, they will change the name of the skin in a future update. They thank the player for informing them.
