Try World of Warcraft for free – it’s quite easy now. Starter accounts can do more than before.
The big Patch 9.0.1 in World of Warcraft is live and brought various innovations. Not only for existing players but also for those who haven’t tried WoW yet. Starter accounts, the essentially the free trial version of WoW, now operate under new rules and restrictions. We will reveal what limitations there are now and what you can experience as a free-to-play player.
What is a trial account? Trial accounts for World of Warcraft can be created for free. You can jump into Azeroth without paying a cent. However, there are some restrictions.
Play WoW Shadowlands for free – These are the restrictions
What kind of restrictions are these? If you play WoW for free, you have to accept a number of drawbacks. These are with Shadowlands:
- Starter accounts must start on the Exile’s Island; they cannot choose any other starting area.
- The time-walking campaign (“Chromie Time”) cannot be used as the account must have completed Battle for Azeroth at least once.
- Between level 10 and level 20, starter accounts play in the Battle for Azeroth expansion.
- 20 is the maximum level for starter accounts.
- You can learn professions.
- You can only have a maximum of 1,000 gold per character.
- You can only chat in the Newbie channel, in /say, and /party.
- You can only whisper other players if you are on their friends list or they have messaged you first.
Especially the level cap of 20 is a clear improvement. Although the limit was also set at 20 before the level squish, it now takes longer to reach that. Starter accounts can thus see more of the game world than before.
What is not possible? In summary, you must forgo the following features as long as you use a starter account:
- Game content from all expansions except Battle for Azeroth
- Level characters above level 20
- Chat in various channels, such as trade or general chat
- Whisper other players unprompted
- Pet battles
- Use Real ID and Battle.net chat functions
- Create groups or invite other players to groups
- Request trades from players
- Use the mailbox
- Use the auction house
If you want to bypass these restrictions, you need to subscribe and thus purchase playtime. Afterwards, all restrictions are lifted and you can level up to level 50.
