The MMO shooter Planetside 2 is coming from PC to the PlayStation 4. In an interview, a developer explains what special emphasis is being placed on.
The PlayStation 4 beta for Planetside 2 has also started here in Europe, while it has been running in the USA for two months. The US site mmorpg.com had the opportunity for an interview with the lead designer of Planetside 2, Luke Sigmund. The focus was on what adjustments have been and will be made for the console port:
- First of all, the user interface had to be adjusted so that players can easily navigate through the menus with the controller.
- With Koltyr, a new zone has been created that functions as a kind of “tutorial.” It can also be played while the full game is still downloading, thanks to the PS4 PlayGo system.
- Instead of focusing on text, the emphasis is fully on voice chat when it comes to player communication. This makes it more important to bring players together first. This works through a default active “auto-squadding.” Currently, efforts are being made to find efficient methods to organize and structure the voice channels so that there is no chaos when up to 48 people are in one channel.
- Furthermore, work is being done to make the game more accessible. At first glance, Planetside 2 can seem intimidating with its many options. This is something they want to avoid.
- The player store, through which players can earn money with their own cosmetic creations, is set to work even better on the PS4 and showcase player creations.
- In the first weeks and months after the release, they want to fully focus on fixing bugs and the feedback from the PlayStation 4 community.
