With PixArk, Snail Games USA has released a mix of Minecraft and the survival game ARK. However, according to many players, it is clearly too early.
What is PixArk? PixArk essentially wants to mix Minecraft with ARK. You find yourself in a world populated by dinos and other creatures. Your task is to survive, tame the creatures, and build a fortress. You can also customize your hero.
The world is based on blocks like in Minecraft and can be completely altered. There is even a creative mode where you can let your imagination run wild while building.
Team play is important, as you have better chances together and can build fortresses faster. However, it is also possible to be on your own.
On which platforms is PixArk available? The game is available for PC, Xbox One, Playstation 4, and Nintendo Switch.
That’s why PC players should wait to buy: PixArk is said to be offered at a discount during the Steam Summer Sale. The sale starts on June 25. If you want to save some money, get PixArk in the Steam Summer Sale.
A release far too early
How is the game being received so far? The release took place on May 31. Accordingly, there are already some opinions about the game. However, these are not particularly positive.
The game’s rating in the Microsoft Store is (as of June 4) only 2.9 out of 5 points. There is a consensus that PixArk was released far too early. There are plenty of technical issues, including bugs but also crashes or the game does not start at all.
Furthermore, many players are having issues with the controls and the menu navigation and are calling for these two aspects to be fundamentally revised.
FireLionHead comments in the Microsoft Store: “It is an interesting game and it is fun. However, it is unfortunately almost unplayable.”
For fairness, we mention that these are reviews from the early access phase. However, if we look at the newer ratings on Steam, not much has changed.
The current rating on Steam is 54 percent and the reviews from late May, early June reflect those of the Microsoft Store.
Steam user ChipsterNova was apparently already part of the early access phase and says: “Still totally bugged. Even after a year.”
What do the positive voices say? Basically, players see the potential of PixArk. Compared to ARK, it should be more coherent and run better. The game mechanics with free building and survival are also well received. Again and again, one reads that it is basically a really good game that is currently plagued too much by bugs and technical problems. The developers need to significantly improve in these areas.
