The MMO Sea of Thieves has introduced a new competition. The winning team will receive a real, golden skull. But the path to it is long.
Sea of Thieves is known for its puzzles. Now the developers have presented a particularly challenging puzzle under the title “The Hoarder’s Hunt” (via seaofthieves.com). Because there are real-life prizes to be won, including a stylish golden skull.
Skulls and keys for the winning team
Why could this cause disputes? The winning team will receive a golden skull and 4 golden keys that the team can divide among themselves.
But in the end, only one person can take the cool skull home. The online magazine Gamesradar has already joked that there will likely be a lot of arguments about who gets the skull and who has to settle for “only” a golden key. Good friends could become real rivals if no one wants to settle for the key.
Other participants will also receive rewards when they register:
- The 10 second-place winners will receive exclusive silver keys.
- The 100 third-place winners will receive a medallion with the symbol of the Reaper.
- All other participants will receive standard in-game rewards such as jewelry or currency that they can then spend in the game.
Event consists of 5 tasks you need to complete
How does the event work? On Thursday, May 11, a special page for the puzzle will go online, where participating players will have to register to receive hints.
From there, you will be sent to “obscure corners of the internet” to find the first clues. Here you will find a keyword that unlocks a quest in the game. This represents one of four stages in the game.
Each phase consists of an ARG clue hunt in the real world and a journey in the game. The final phase is a race to the finish line, where it is about who gets a key in the game first. Whoever gets the key can secure the grand prize.
