Pierce Brosnan played the iconic secret agent James Bond in four films. However, he expressed critical views about his portrayal of the role in an interview, explaining why it was so difficult for him.
Brosnan made his “James Bond” debut in 1995 with GoldenEye. In 1997, The World Is Not Enough was released, followed by The World Is Not Enough two years later.
In 2002, Die Another Day marked the last Bond film with the actor before Daniel Craig took over as the new 007 agent.
In an interview with The Telegraph in April 2014, Pierce Brosnan spoke critically about his iconic role and shared why he can’t watch his own “James Bond” films.

“It’s just never good enough”
Why was the role so difficult for him? “I felt like I was trapped in a time warp between Roger [Moore] and Sean [Connery],” Brosnan explained in the interview.
This made it hard for the actor to grasp the significance behind the character and portray James Bond deeply.
He further explained: “The violence was never real, the brutal force of the man was never tangible. It was rather tame, and the characterization was not realistic; it was superficial.”
Then Pierce Brosnan also admitted that perhaps his own insecurities played a role and might have held him back.

All these concerns and insecurities led the actor to be reluctant to watch himself in his films afterward.
Pierce Brosnan stated that he feels bad about it: “I don’t want to see myself as James Bond. Because it’s just never good enough. That’s a terrible feeling.”
