On May 27, the release of the online role-playing game Phantasy Star Online 2 (PSO 2) took place. However, there were massive problems at launch. We take a look at how the community feels.
How did the launch of PSO 2 go? The servers went online on the afternoon of May 27. But shortly afterward, players reported cryptic error messages. Some could not connect to the servers and play.
These reports include designations such as 0x800704C6 or 0x87E0000D, which players can hardly understand.

An unfortunate PC release
How are the developers responding? The team behind PSO 2 has responded via Twitter and explained to players what to do to get into the game.
Update Windows 10 to meet the game’s system requirements. Enable all Xbox settings and restart your PC. Please note that #PSO2NA is only available on the Microsoft Store in North America (USA and Canada). For other issues, please contact customer service directly!

On reddit, there is a thread with collected assistance. It notes, for example, that disabling IPv6 in network settings or reinstalling the game can help.
There are also other issues: The login problems are not the only thing that players are currently upset about. The Microsoft Store installs all apps and games on the C drive by default. If this is not changed, there may be space issues.
To change the installation path for games from the Microsoft Store, proceed as follows:
- Click the Windows logo
- Select “Settings”.
- Go to “System”.
- On the left side, go to the “Storage” entry under “Storage locations”.
- Now select a different partition via “new apps will be saved in”
Additionally, there are reports that the online game cannot be uninstalled normally. Nothing happens when attempting to uninstall, and the files cannot be manually deleted due to lack of permissions.
The game also deletes downloaded patches in some cases after a reboot, requiring them to be reloaded. Or the game disappears completely after a restart of the PC.
In contrast, there are hardly any issues with the Xbox One version. Players are having fun on the console.
If you can play, you have fun
This is how the online RPG is received: Not everyone is struggling with these issues, as evidenced by the lobby, which has been well-filled with players since release.
Players who can log in also seem to have a great deal of enjoyment with PSO 2.

- ad_rob mentioned on reddit: “It’s disappointing that some are having such big problems. I was able to play for about an hour and regarding gameplay, I had a good time. It definitely feels like how I remember PSO.”
- moal09 remarked: “It’s one of the most enjoyable loot grinds out there because the action combat system is so fluid and engaging, and the customization options are amazing.”
Who is Phantasy Star Online 2 suitable for? If you expect a classic MMORPG with an open world and many players you meet on your explorations, then PSO 2 might not be the right game for you.
It is an online RPG where you visit instances in groups and experience adventures, find loot, and fight monsters in those areas. The story plays a significant role.
If you rather want to play a coop RPG with a small group of friends, then you should check out PSO 2.
