At Phantasy Star Online 2, there is some news – the game will soon also be available for the PS4!
New Class: Summoner
There are some news to report regarding the MMORPG Phantasy Star Online 2, which has only been released in Asia so far. The developers have planned a new update for January 27, 2016, which is called “Reborn: Episode 4” and will add another class to the game.
The new “Summoner” focuses mainly on summoning and controlling companions who not only attack but also enhance their owner. However, there are also some pets that function purely as tanks, drawing enemies together so that the Summoner can eliminate them with high area damage.
PS4 Beta on the Horizon
So far, PSO2 has only been released on PC and PlayStation Vita, but next year it is set to conquer the PS4 as well. For this reason, there will be a beta test in the second half of February 2016, before the game is then released on the latest Sony console in the spring. The game is Free2Play, but buyers of a box version can stock up on some bonus items. By the way, a PlayStation Plus membership is not required to play online.
The bad news at the end: So far, there are no plans to release PSO2 outside of Asia. However, for those who cannot do without the game, they can obtain an English fan patch for the PC version and at least play a bit with the Japanese version. However, this is not really a satisfactory substitute. There is a long post in the PSO2 community on reddit about how Westerners can enjoy the MMORPG.
On Southeast Asian servers, PSO 2 is also playable in English, but there are IP block issues. The version is far behind the Japanese one and is viewed with suspicion by the community.
