A release of the fantasy MMO Phantasy Star Online 2 for the West is still on the table, it’s just facing delays, according to Sega.
As reported by Gameinformer, Sega still stands by the commitment to bring Phantasy Star Online 2 to the West. According to a tweet from the official account, it is merely “delayed,” but not canceled. PSO 2 was released in Japan in 2012, and it was originally planned for 2013 in North America. That did not happen. However, SEGA continues to work on the game’s release for the West and will inform fans if there are any updates.
In English, PSO 2 has actually been playable for a while now, but on Southeast Asian servers. Phantasy Star, along with the “Shining Force” series, is the most popular RPG franchise in SEGA’s lineup. The first Phantasy Star made a name for itself back on the Sega Master System – that was a long time ago.
