Even though Phantasy Star Online 2 (PSO 2) is not yet playable for us, some are looking forward to the online RPG and are already planning their entry. We are here to help you by telling you what class you should choose at the beginning.
How many classes are there in PSO 2? As the release of Phantasy Star Online 2 approaches and apparently PSO 2 will be playable for us in Europe, we want to give you an insight into the classes of the game. In total, there are nine classes and four races.
The choice of race affects the class, so you should pay attention to a suitable combo here.
The 9 Classes in Phantasy Star Online 2
These are the classes of PSO 2: We briefly introduce you to the nine classes and tell you what makes them special. This way, you can decide which suits your playstyle.
These classes are suitable for beginners:
- Braver: This is a versatile class. The Braver fights with bows from a distance but can also engage in close combat with the katana. This class is best suited for beginners.
- Hunter: The Hunter is the standard fighter, offering a good balance between offensive and defensive gameplay. With him, you can either engage in direct close combat with swords or attack from a safe distance with spears. The class is suitable for anyone who plays solo.
- Summoner: The class summons pets that charge into battle and protect the Summoner. The Summoner should hold back, however. The Summoner is also suitable for beginners.
These classes are a bit more advanced:
- Fighter: The Fighter is a melee fighter designed to rush directly into combat. He cannot use spears, so you should only choose the Fighter if you are really good with melee combat.
- Ranger: The Ranger attacks from a distance and deals a lot of damage. He is best played in a group and supports the others. Alone, he struggles.
- Force: One could call Force the standard healer in Phantasy Star Online 2. Alone, he has a hard time, as he deals little damage himself. However, he is very suitable as a supporter.
These classes should be chosen if you know the game really well:
- Bouncer: One of the most interesting melee classes, which is difficult to master: You must not only master melee combat well but also navigate the tech tree. You should only choose this class once you have gained some experience with PSO 2.
- Gunner: A strong ranged fighter who defeats his opponents with guns. The Gunner can only target one opponent at a time, which requires a certain tactic. Therefore, the Gunner should be played in a group and not solo.
- Techter: The Techter is a support class that, like the Force, deals little damage and has limited chances against enemies when playing solo.
The Races of Phantasy Star Online 2
Which races can you choose? Here we present the races of PSO 2 and explain which is best suited for which class.
- Humans: Humans are all-rounders who are well-suited for any class. They have neither advantages nor disadvantages.
- Newmans: This race has less HP and lower dexterity but deals more damage. As damage dealers from the second row, Newmans are well-suited.
- CAST: The robot-like beings also deal more damage but are not as good in defense. However, they have a bit more HP.
- Deumans: These beings, like Newmans, have less HP but are more dexterous. They have slightly lower defense but deal more damage.
The Best Starting Class
What is the best starting class? Here we present the class you should choose first when you start Phantasy Star Online 2 for the first time.
As a beginner, you should choose the Braver, preferably as a human. You start with three weapons:
- The bow, which allows you to attack from a safe distance and deal ranged attack damage (R-ATK)
- The katana, a very good melee blade with high strike attack damage (S-ATK)
- The gunslash, which allows you to switch between melee and ranged combat without a pause
The Braver allows you to choose the playstyle you want. You learn both how melee and ranged combat work with him.
What if I want to play another class at some point? You can change your class at any time in the very interesting PSO 2. This means: Once you have familiarized yourself with the game using the Braver and found your playstyle, you can choose one of the other classes and simply switch.
