The ban of streamer Guy “Dr Disrespect” Beahm from the streaming platform Twitch remains a mystery. Now, the biggest YouTuber in the world, Felix “PewDiePie” Kjellberg, has commented on the ban. From his perspective, the ban has an interesting timing.
On June 26, it became known that Twitch has banned streamer Dr Disrespect, apparently permanently. A few months earlier, the streamer had signed a multi-year exclusive contract with them. YouTuber PewDiePie spoke about the events in a stream on July 8 and shares his perspective (via youtube).
This is how PewDiePie views Dr Disrespect’s ban: What doesn’t add up for PewDiePie: Twitch offered Dr Disrespect a “multi-million dollar” deal in March, only to ban him at the end of June without providing reasons.
Three months ago, Twitch was willing to put money on the table and invest in this guy. And now he is permanently banned? That’s crazy!

PewDiePie believes that Dr Disrespect now regrets not signing with Mixer:
Dr Disrespect is going to be so incredibly angry about not signing with Mixer. […] He signed with Twitch because he was hopeful about the future, instead of grabbing the big bucks. “I’ll be better off signing with Twitch” – I bet that’s what he thought. Oh God, that hurts.

If he had signed an exclusive contract with Mixer, he would have had a similar payday at the end of Mixer as Michael “shroud” Grzesiek who reportedly made $10 million for 8 months of work. How much luck shroud had with his deal was addressed by Dr Disrespect himself in his stream.
What concerns PewDiePie the most is the lack of information regarding the ban. He finds the circumstances of the Doctor’s ban “crazy.”
When PewDiePie reads a tweet from a streamer saying the Doctor is “done”, he calls it “creepy.”
What could that have to do with Mixer? PewDiePie has heard the theory that Twitch wanted to dissolve the contract with Dr Disrespect, after Mixer shut down. Without a competitor to switch to, Twitch allegedly no longer wanted to pay the Doctor so highly.
This may not be the decisive reason, but it is still interesting timing, PewDiePie believes.
But the theory has a flaw. Because by doing so, Twitch conveys the idea to everyone: “If you sign with Twitch, you risk being completely shut down and losing everything. It’s not safe to sign with Twitch.”
PewDiePie believes Twitch must have a serious reason to ban Dr Disrespect and dissolve the contract. We will likely have to wait for the trial to learn more details.
