It is already known that Microsoft and Sony are working on the successors to Xbox One and PlayStation 4. In an interview, Pete Hines hinted that Bethesda already knows quite a bit about the next consoles, but cannot reveal anything yet.
Some developers have reportedly already been informed about the next console generation by Microsoft and Sony. Bethesda’s marketing manager Pete Hines stated in an interview that his company already knows “some things” about the new systems. However, he could not disclose any real details yet.
Bethesda is already in the loop
What could Hines already reveal? In a recent interview, Pete Hines, the marketing manager at Bethesda, stated that his company has already been informed about the next consoles from Microsoft and Sony. However, not much seems to have been revealed, as Hines himself seems still curious about some details.
I am curious to see how they look and how different they are. I am in on things I can’t really talk about, but there is also a lot that I am not sure how it will look. And more importantly, how big the shift is that we can expect.
Will there be a significant graphical difference again? Hines further explained that there was a significant shift in graphical quality from the original Xbox/PS2 era to Xbox 360 and PS3. This was the transition from “the old way” to high definition. In his opinion, the transition from Xbox 360 and PS3 to Xbox One and PS4, however, was less dramatic.
Whether there will be another significant graphical improvement with the next console generation, Hines stated he does not know.

Will games be more expensive in the next generation?
Why should games become more expensive? In the interview, Hines speculated that developing triple-A games would become even more expensive with the next console generation. Smaller games, however, are unlikely to see much of a price increase.
Games are already so diverse. To say that all games will become more expensive would probably be too broad. A big triple-A game like Starfield is not cheap. It never was. Back then with Morrowind, we had a team of 35 people. That is not nearly as big as with Fallout 76. But alongside that, you have a game like The Elder Scrolls Legends, which has a significantly smaller team than many other games. So it depends on what kind of game it is and how big and extensive it is.
Microsoft announced at E3 2018 that it is already working on multiple successors to Xbox One and Xbox One X. The next PlayStation is expected in 2021.
