The MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV allows players to be accompanied by a cute pet. There are dozens of them and most are really adorable. Except for one …
What kind of pet is it? It’s about the pet Manjimutt, a dog with a human face. As reported by PCGamer, its face resembles that of former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani.
Here’s a picture of the peculiar creature:
Typically, companions are all adorable and represent smaller, cute versions (“Chibis”) of enemies or other creatures. A whole bunch of new pets came with Shadowbringers and just on February 19 with Patch 5.2.
Manjimutt, on the other hand, was awarded by PCGamer the title of the ugliest MMO pet of all time. Its owner, however, is proud of the little rascal.
Owner gets messages, likes Manjimutt anyway
This is what his owner says: The player Sabriel, who owns this Manjimutt, says that he is constantly whispered about because of his companion. Players want to know, “WHAT IS THAT?!” A valid question, by the way.
In an interview with PCGamer, Sabriel reveals that he initially did it just for fun. After a few dozen players messaged him, however, Manjimutt earned a permanent spot by his side.
As it turned out in a discussion on Twitter, there are even more fans of the ugly pet. Some have even found a book that apparently deals with these human-dogs:
Why is Manjimutt so special? The pet is currently no longer available. Manjimutt was part of a crossover event with the popular Japanese game series Yo-kai Watch. There, Manjimutt is one of the possible monsters (similar to Pokémon).
However, the event took place in 2016 and 2017, and since then, many new players have likely found their way to Final Fantasy 14. They all didn’t know where Manjimutt comes from and are now wondering why someone is walking around with such a thing.
Square Enix has already announced that the event is set to be repeated (via twinfinite). There isn’t a date yet, but it should happen “soon.” In the meantime, you can check out other pets:
