The MMO publisher Perfect World (Star Trek Online, Neverwinter) has apparently laid off more staff. This time it affects Europe and Russia.
We reported exactly two weeks ago that the Chinese publisher Perfect World laid off employees from the US studio Cryptic Studios, who are working on Neverwinter and Star Trek Online. They were apparently disappointed with the results in the Western market.
Now the US site MassivelyOp reports that a former employee of Perfect World has contacted them. This person wants to remain anonymous, but their identity has been confirmed. MassivelyOp was also the first to report in detail about the layoffs two weeks ago.
According to this employee, Perfect World has laid off community managers in Europe: one French and one German. The community managers are said to have only been with Perfect World for a few months. The source was particularly surprised that they laid off five or six employees from the team responsible for the important Russian market.
It is not exactly known which games the laid-off employees were involved in. In addition to Neverwinter and Star Trek Online, Perfect World also manages its own games from its home country China, such as Swordsman Online.
At the moment, the information has not yet been confirmed, but it seems to be quite credible.
