At the Summer Games Done Quick 2019, the speedrunner Eddaket was swiftly playing Pokémon Let’s Go Eevee and aimed to play as efficiently as possible. However, the fans had only one request: “Finally pet the Eevee.” That was the demand of the hall, and 7 donations over $500 for a good cause came in.
What kind of event is this? Games Done Quick has been around since 2010. It is a charity event of the speedrunning community. They race through games, and all for a good cause.
The goal is to complete games in record time, no matter the cost. Speedrunners have their own code of conduct, but generally, it is about playing as efficiently as possible, always taking the shortest route, and wasting no time. Not even to pause for a moment and pet the cutest Pokémon in the world.
After all, it’s always against the clock. The aim is to break records and be faster than those before. There is no time for cuddles.
This was the situation for the speedrunner: The speedrunner Eddaket was on Pokémon Let’s Go Eevee and had played for about 1 hour and 5 minutes. He planned to complete the run in about 3 hours and 30 minutes. So he had to get moving.
The moderator asked: “Do you have a moment? We have some special donations you should hear about.”
“We have $500 from Pet the Eevee with the message: Do it!”
“We have $500 from Drantham, who says: Pet the Eevee.”
The moderator then read out 5 more donations of $500 each with the clear instruction: “Pet the Eevee!” The donations go to a good cause.
The Twitch chat roared: “Holy Crap, pet the Eevee!” Even the hall chanted: “Pet that Eevee.”
Did he do it? Yes, of course he did and took time to pet the Eevee, which he affectionately named John Cena.

Did he break the record? As reported by Dexerto, the speedrunner did complete Pokémon Let’s Go Eevee in just over 3 hours. However, he did not manage to break his own record that he had set 3 months prior at 3 hours and 6 minutes (via speedrun).
Pokémon Let’s Go is a game, that aims to bring trainers who started with Pokémon GO into the “main series”.
