Bungie receives a lot of praise for the PC beta of Destiny 2 . As a Destiny veteran on PS4 and Xbox One, one feels a bit envious.
Last night, the beta for Destiny 2 on PC started and surprise: most players love the beta. They are full of praise. Hardly any issues, technically flawless, graphics fantastic, gameplay great – a superb port from console to PC.
In the heart of the Destiny community, on Reddit, there are threads like:
- “Once you’ve played on PC, you can’t go back. The graphics are simply fantastic”
- “Honestly, as a console player, I’m delighted to see how much PC players love the beta”
In the threads, there are comments like:
- The more people love Destiny, the better
- That’s the best port I’ve ever seen
- Many big streamers are playing it today – Destiny 2 is getting tremendous public attention
- I’m really looking forward to when Bungie messes up for the first time and more people than ever get upset about it here on Reddit
A different atmosphere than during the PS4/Xbox-One beta of Destiny 2
The PC beta has a completely different atmosphere than the Destiny 2 beta for PS4 and Xbox One. Here, veterans complained that PvP is now slower, they were bothered by balance decisions, and the absence of 60 FPS.
Even now, not everything is sunshine and rainbows in Destiny-land. Apparently, some PS4 and Xbox One veterans are annoyed that PC players are doing so well now. Moderators frequently have to intervene and state that the subreddit is for everyone and is platform-independent. There is no place for platform-hostile remarks.
Even in the comments on our articles and in our social media, the atmosphere is similar to that in English-speaking Reddit. Many new guardians, to whom Destiny has finally been made accessible on PC, are thrilled with the gameplay and the graphics.
A larger part of the community is happy that the PC beta is being received so well and attracting new players to Destiny 2. A smaller part is somewhat annoyed with Bungie that so much fuss is being made about PC players now. They believe that PS4 and Xbox One made Destiny great and should also be recognized. Especially the comment about PC players as “first-class citizens” seems to have struck some the wrong way. What was meant as “we treat PC players equally” was interpreted as “we prefer PC players”.
PS4 and Xbox One players are attached to their console, but even more to their friends
Some players on PS4 and Xbox One seem to be struggling with the fact that the PC version is technically superior. A switch is only an option for a few Destiny veterans:
- Some are hesitant to buy a new computer.
- Others simply prefer playing on the console on the couch rather than at a “desktop.”.
- Most, however, want to stay on their console because of their friends. They would only switch if they could persuade their buddies to come along.
