The developers of Path of Exile have reached out to the fans in a statement. They speak plainly about the problems of the new season “Secrets of the Atlas”.
What problems are there? The new season “Secrets of the Atlas” of Path of Exile (1) started on Friday, June 13, 2025, at 10:00 PM. However, instead of a relaxed weekend filled with looting and leveling, players faced significant lags, which made it impossible for many to continue playing.
The server issues quickly caused great discontent in the community, and even though the worst problems could be fixed over the weekend, players were still complaining about connection issues on Monday. Now the developers have spoken out and explained the current situation.

Developers apologize
What have the developers written? The developers of Path of Exile have explained in their post on PathofExile.com where the current problems come from. Since the start of the season, the Path of Exile servers have been subjected to a strong DDoS attack, which is responsible for the lags.
Even though the developers are already working with the highest priority to protect the servers from the attack, they cannot currently provide a timeline for when Path of Exile can be played without lags again. Additionally, they apologize:
“This is an unacceptable service and we are very sorry. We want to assure you that we take this problem very seriously and it has the highest priority for our company to resolve it.”
What else have the developers written? The developers have also referenced other issues with Path of Exile. There was an issue with the console versions of the new season. Unlike on PC, they cannot be fixed quickly, as new versions had to be created for the bug, which had to be tested and certified.
As for balancing, players can expect changes to the new mercenaries. The developers have recognized that many of them are simply too strong and can easily take out the player in combat, especially during the campaign phase at the beginning of the game. Therefore, a new patch is intended to weaken the mercenaries as your enemies. They are not to be changed as allies.
Finally, the developers thank the players for their tremendous support during this difficult time. Path of Exile recently had over 175,000 players simultaneously on Steam, significantly more than the successor: The new season of Path of Exile attracts more than 175,000 players on Steam – Don’t let them play in peace
