Grinding Gear Games has upset some players of the popular action RPG Path of Exile (PoE). A mouse cursor pack for 9 Euros is heating up discussions.
What has been announced? The developer studio Grinding Gear Games has introduced a new in-game item in Path of Exile. This is the mouse cursor pack. It offers you five designs for the cursor in the game, allowing you to customize your mouse pointer.
You can purchase the mouse cursor pack for 100 in-game currency points, which is equivalent to 8.80 Euros.

Mouse cursors are making PoE fans angry
What is the purpose of the pack? On one hand, players can choose the cursor they like best and financially support the developers of PoE with a purchase. On the other hand, there is also a practical use. Because there are cursors included that offer enhanced contrast, making them better visible.
However, to ensure that this is not an advantage for paying customers, all players of the action RPGs find a free high-contrast mouse cursor in their accounts.
Nevertheless, it could be that one or another player prefers one of the paid mouse cursors.
How are players reacting to the pack? The mouse cursor pack has caused some criticism. We summarize a few voices from the community for you:
- cosme7 explains (via reddit): “100 points is too much, GGG…”
- Mobilerocks 121 provocatively asks (via reddit): “Is this a late April Fool’s joke?”
- nevalopo thinks (via reddit): “Is a new interface design the next microtransaction?”
- This_Mud8879 writes (via reddit): “Microtransactions for mouse cursors… That’s just ridiculous.”
Why are the reactions like this? On one hand, players find the price for a pack of new mouse cursors too high. On the other hand, some are also concerned that this might lead to the popular app Yolomouse being banned.
sentimentalwhore comments (via reddit): “And tomorrow we might get news: Half of the players have been banned for using an app called Yolomouse!”
Yolomouse allows PoE players to visually modify their mouse cursor using a free app (via DragonRise) so that it becomes more visible.
However, since Grinding Gear Games is now selling more visible mouse cursors, it is conceivable that the tool could be banned in the future – at least that’s the fear of PoE fans.
What do you think about paying extra for new mouse cursor designs in Path of Exile? Do you also fear that Yolomouse will soon be prohibited?
MeinMMO recently spoke with the head of PoE. He says: ‘There are things in Path of Exile that 15-year-olds should not see’.
